Birmingham Farmers Market Temporary/Seasonal Farmers Market Assistant Responsibilities require attendance at the Birmingham Farmers Market every Sunday starting May 5, 2019 through October 27th, 2019, and possibly other BSD events if available. Each market shift would be approximately 8 hours long (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), with a lunch break. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: Assisting with set-up of the market each Sunday morning beginning at 7:00 a.m.: Assembling canopies, delivering chairs, canopy weights, and tables/picnic tables where designated. Distributing trash boxes throughout the market, disposing of trash, connecting water source, helping vendors with set-up as directed, etc. Teardown of the market each Sunday afternoon: Collapsing BSD canopies, moving tables, picnic tables & chairs to storage. Disposing of trash, turning off water, closing electrical box, general clean-up of the parking lot, locking up equipment, etc. During the market day: Track attendance during the counting period each hour. Assist patrons at the Information Tent (answer questions, help patrons with large orders to their vehicles, etc.). Collect survey responses. Serve as a team lead for volunteers. Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time and withstand varying degrees of seasonal temperatures. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 lbs. Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, kneel, squat, climb, etc. Ability to distinguish people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light conditions.
