Position: Counselor-in-Training Leader Branch: YMCA Storer Camps Position Type: Part-time (Summer camp - starting in May, 2023) Pay: Starting at $500 per week Be a difference maker, with the YMCA Storer Camps, the overnight camp of the YMCA of Greater Toledo. YMCA Storer Camps is located near Jackson, MI on 1200 acres surrounding Stony Lake. We are hiring for numerous positions, both direct program staff and leadership staff. GENERAL FUNCTION: To lend support to the entire Summer Camp staff and structure. To participate in the general planning and delivery of the summer camp program. To ensure the health and well being of each camper in the Counselor-in-Training program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement a two-week curriculum for all Counselor-in-Training participants including lectures, workshops and hands-on experiences. Serve as cabin counselor for CIT participants during first week of program; observe CIT participants during second week (shadowing week) of program when placed in assigned cabin. Check in daily with each CIT participant to discuss program outcomes and desired goals for individual. Communicate with assigned cabin counselors to devise unique plan for each CIT participant during their shadowing week. Conduct written evaluations of each CIT participant at the end of each session to be given to them. Assist with program activities and other activities in the center, working closely with the Summer Camp Director. Organize, plan, supervise and implement recreational activities, special events and evening programs. Assist with check-in and checkout procedures. Implement the camper behavior management policy. Follow all camp policies, rules and regulations. Any other duties that enhance the camp programs and the experiences of campers. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 21 years of age and have had two years working in an organized resident camp setting. Must have a sincere desire to work with children. Possess certifications in CPR and First Aid. Lifeguard certification encouraged. EFFECTS ON END RESULT: The CIT Leader is part of a staff team that will work together to provide quality camping programs in an environment that fulfills the YMCA's mission and Core Values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect and Faith. In addition, this team will also be accountable for working in a manner that will ensure the financial stability, which allows for future growth and development. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to plan, lead and participate in program activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
