Chemist Internship American Bottoms Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, located in Sauget Illinois, is seeking a Plant Engineer Summer Intern. American Bottoms is a regional wastewater treatment facility providing services to Sauget, East St. Louis, Cahokia, and the surrounding communities. In 2014 the facility was awarded "Plant of The Year" by the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators. In addition, American Bottoms has been recognized as one of the best companies to work for in Illinois; six years in a row. These awards are a testament to the dedication, skill and pride of American Bottoms employees. The Intern must conform to EPA approved laboratory methods for compliant results by analyzing wastewater samples including the final effluent to the Mississippi River. The role includes testing with all necessary Quality Control (QC) samples; proper safety protocol for handling samples, acids and other reagents; and following the lab's Standard Operating Procedures. Also, timely reporting each day will be required to provide data to clients as soon as practical. Essential Functions and Duties: Analytical testing of wastewater samples from residential and industry customers internal process samples final effluent to the Mississippi River Completion and review of analytical data sheets for the following: Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) Ammonia Ion Chromatograph (IC) Instrument which includes anions and cations Peer review of co-workers' data sheets. Data entry into appropriate logs. Troubleshooting data anomalies. Compiles and provides complete, accurate and timely reports of test data and results analysis. Performs Quality Assurance testing as required to assist with processing and compliance requirements. Maintains laboratory chemicals, supplies and materials required to complete assigned projects. Maintains and calibrates laboratory instruments and equipment for accuracy and efficiency. Performs multiple tests at a time . Communicates issues to appropriate personnel. Maintains clean, orderly and safe working environment Other duties as assigned by management Minimum Requirements Requires Intermediate skills with Excel. Must meet the physical requirements including, but not limited to lifting, walking, standing, and sitting. Working towards degree in physical or chemical sciences Abilities Required Must have good organizational skills Analytical, critical-thinking, technical, and problem-solving skills and abilities.
