Job Description JOB OBJECTIVE: Perform maintenance, care, and design for plantings in meaningful indoor spaces throughout the Promega Madison Campus. Provide occasional support in managing campus ornamental and fruit trees.CORE DUTIES:1. Research and develop maintenance plans and build tracking systems for general plant health.2. Execute routine maintenance, care, and watering for all interior plantings across multiple buildings in a wide array of plantings according to the maintenance plan.3. Develop and execute the maintenance plan for the 1200 living wall including quarterly maintenance with a mechanical lift, placement of new plants onto the wall, and nutrition and pest monitoring.4. Visually inspect plants for pests and disease on a regular basis according to the developed maintenance plan. Develop a schedule for treatment and execute the treatment plan following set safety standards and labeled use.5. Maintain a folder of SDS documents for all chemicals used and up to date documentation for any applications made.6. Monitor plants for nutritional needs and research, develop, and implement a fertilizer and nutrition program as necessary. Develop and maintain an up-to-date tracking system for any applications of fertilizers and amendments.7. Develop maintenance plans for the multiple green roofs on campus following current industry best practices and execute those plans. Provide routine maintenance, weeding, watering, and care to the perennial rooftop gardens. Assist in the development and execution of new designs for rooftop remodels and new plantings.8. Create and implement design plans for new indoor plant installations and collaborate with building managers and stakeholders to provide expertise on ideas and designs.9. Assist in the pruning and management of campus fruit trees.10. Maintain an inventory of all plants and horticultural materials on campus, order plant material and supplies as needed, manage the horticultural yearly budget.11. Horticultural equipment maintenance, including cleaning, preventative maintenance service and checks.12. Train and supervise seasonal horticultural employee(s) as necessary to assist in the maintenance of green spaces on campus.13. Act as liaison with both internal and external customers. Develop and maintain relationships with Promega employees, adjacent businesses, consultants, and others as needed regarding horticulture issues.14. Assist the Promega Land & Natural Resource team as needed. Provide information regarding upcoming horticulture management needs, changes in status and costs for improvements.15. Assist Promega and Manager of Land & Natural Resources in the development and review of campus long and short-term greenspace planning.16. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.KEY QUALIFICATIONS:1. Bachelor's degree in horticulture, botany, plant sciences, or a related field.2. Minimum 4 years' experience in horticulture, greenhouse management or horticultural setting.3. Working knowledge of green roof technologies and best practices for green roof maintenance.4. Ability to identify basic plant and tree species native to the Midwest region, including invasive plant and tree species.5. Knowledge and experience in using horticulture maintenance equipment safely and coordination of maintenance of such equipment.6. Ability to be flexible and alert to changing horticulture maintenance needs and must be willing to adjust work schedule and priority tasks as necessary.7. Ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences both orally and written.8. Customer service focused. Demonstrated experience in continuously improving operations, streamlining work processes, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide superior customer service.9. Certified Pesticide Applicator, 3.1 Greenhouse and Nursery (WI Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection).10. WI DOT Class D License - regular automobile.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Previous experience managing a horticultural program in either a greenhouse or indoor setting.2. Interest in learning new skills to improve knowledge related to horticulture and indoor plant scape management.3. Previous experience with horticulture and landscape design.4. Experience in fruit tree pruning and management.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:1. Manual Dexterity - Work requires regular speed and accuracy for most of the working day.2. Physical Effort - Work requires heavy muscular effort or exertion, but not continuous. Employees shall be able to lift 20 lbs. constantly and 50 lbs. occasionally.3.
