Instructor 103190 Job Summary:The Department of History and Philosophy at the University of West Florida invites applications for a position in Philosophy at the rank of Instructor to begin August 2024. The Department has teaching needs in the following areas: ancient philosophy, modern philosophy, and metaphysics (including human agency and philosophy of mind), and so the applicant’s AOS/AOC should include these areas. The Department does not have teaching needs in the areas of philosophy of religion, epistemology, logic, and philosophy of science. A substantial component of the teaching load will be dedicated to teaching introductory courses such as Introduction to Philosophy and Introduction to Ethics (i.e., “Ethics in Contemporary Society”). Teaching load is 4 courses per semester. Summer teaching opportunities are available, subject to course demand. The position includes service obligations which may include activities such as coordinating departmental assessment, recruitment, and participation in planning program curriculum. Minimum Qualifications:· Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Position Qualifications:· Ph.D. Philosophy or closely related field. Preferred Qualifications:· Demonstrated teaching excellence in the areas related to the Department’s teaching needs.
