Job Summary: Job Description:To develop, in each student, the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn the subject matter presented to them in order for that student to become a positive member of the community. Lead instructors are assigned to work with all adjunct and full-time faculty within a prescribed area. The lead instructor of biomanufacturing supports and administers the courses and facilities contained in the Biomanufacturing Technologies A.A.S. program and associated certificates.Essential JobFunctions:1.WorkwiththeDeanand/orDepartmentHeadtodevelopnewcoursesandto reviseexistingcourses.2.Work with the Dean and/or Department Head to develop a semester class schedule,recommendingfacultytoteachscheduledsectionsandrecommendingsectioncancellationsandadditions,asneeded.3.Developorapproveparametersforcoursesyllabiandobjectives, including assessments and course activities.4.Teach a minimum twelve (12) credit hours per semester for laboratory classes or fifteen (15) credit hours for non-laboratory classes or equivalent service.This may include evening and/or online instruction.5.Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.6.Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives and grading procedures for all courses.7.Advise and assist students in selecting appropriate academic courses.8.Post and keep office hours as per institutional guidelines.9.Selectand distributetextstofaculty.10.Orientnewfacultytoassignedcourse(s).11.Observeandappraiseadjunctinstructors.12.Work with the Dean and/or Department Head to maintain common class materials and equipment for the program.13.Provide an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment related to the biomanufacturing degree program.14.Establishguidelinesandprocedures forlaboratoryuse,whereapplicable.15.Meetwith courseinstructorsregularlytoexchangeideasforimprovingcourses and/orinstruction.16.Remaincurrentwithdevelopmentsinthediscipline.17.Providethefirst-levelofassistanceand/orresponsein:a.solvingproblemsinvolvingstudentsand/orinstructionalissues.b.fieldinginstructorquestions,concerns,or requests.c.mediatingstudentcomplaintsbyi.makingeveryeffort toresolvethe problematanappropriateadministrativelevel.ii.identifyingwaysthestudentcancontributetotheresolutionofthecomplaint.iii.supportinginstructionalintegrity,aswellasfair,even-handedtreatmentofstudents.iv.suggestingways the instructorcan strengthenteaching and/orpresentationskills, whenappropriate.v.informingthedepartmentand/ordivisionheadofthesituationincase the student.vi.decidestoproceedwiththeissuetothenextlevel.18.Assist in collecting and reporting assessment activity for biomanufacturing courses and programs.19.Provide data and information for program reviews and funding applications.20.Coordinatepart-timefacultyactivitiesbya.recommendingemploymentofadjunct facultywithinthedesignatedarea(s) to the Deanand/orDepartmentHead.b.providingadministrativesupportandsupervisionof part-time faculty. 21.Implement the institutionally-recommended strategies for retention.22.Implement the assessment model.23.Serve on special projects and committees.24.Assist in the designing/revising of courses and curricula.25.Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.26.Makethemselvesavailablesufficientlytoperformthedutiesdescribedabove.27.Complete all mandatory training and participate in RPT recommended level of professional development each year.28.Fulfill all faculty requirements as noted in the Faculty Handbook.29.Perform other duties as assigned.The duties listed in this job description are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Education & Experience Position Qualifications: MinimumQualifications:Education:Master’s degree in Biology or related field.Training/Experience:Must be qualified to teach and provide leadership in an academic discipline and/or degree program.Minimum of one year of college-level teaching experience.Skills, Knowledge,Abilities Required:Teaching Competence – Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English and prepare complex reports on deadline; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail, internet, and learning management systems.Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.Preferred Qualifications:Biotechnology industry experience.Doctorate in related field.Experience in Learning ManagementSystems such as D2L, Blackboard, or Canvas. Working Conditions:Office environment. Exposure to chemicals found within the department and repetitive activities common to science labs, such as cutting and pipetting.Position may require up to 30% of the work week be performed outside of regular hours.Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environment.Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone, via email, and various communication platforms..Physical Requirements:Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift) unassisted, bending, standing, repetitive motions, climbing , walking and computer usage.Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.Duties require extensive use of computers, telephone and other office equipment.May be in proximity of chemicals, solutions, biohazardous material, and any other hazardous materials common to the science lab..The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations Oklahoma State University (OSU) strives to provide a safe study, work, and living environment for its faculty, staff, volunteers and students.
