POSITION PURPOSE 1. Employee adheres to and follows the principles and service code of St. Cloud Regional Medical Center program and participates in hospital-sponsored events.Employee acknowledges all customers-patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians-promptly and courteously. Employee communicates resolutions back to the customer. 1.5 Employee participates in internal and external events designed to promote health and positive public awareness of St. Cloud Regional Medical Center and our involvement and commitment to the Community. (i.e., Health Fairs, etc.) 2. Assesses and analyzes health status of patients upon arrival to the Cardiac Cath/Interventional Radiology Lab. 2.1 Performs and/or assures completed pre-procedure assessments of patient as soon as possible after arrival in the Lab. Contacts physician immediately for any clinical concerns that may affect the patient during the procedure. Obtains early documentation from Lab, Medical Records, etc., before procedure. 2.2 Performs ongoing assessments and documents during procedure. 2.3 Reports any significant findings and/or changes in the patient’s status to physician 3. Assists physicians with Cath/IR procedure.3.1 Prepares patient for Cath/IR Lab procedure by proper positioning according to procedure, attachment of monitoring systems, appropriate prep and drip of patient using sterile technique.3.2 Using sterile technique sets up procedure tray appropriately. Preps and flushes all manifolds, transducers, catheters and guide wires properly. Demonstrates ability to fill, prep and drape power injector correctly using sterile technique. Has working knowledge of individual physicians’ procedural protocol.3.3 Demonstrates full knowledge of guide wires, catheters, sheaths and their uses. Able to prep and assist physicians with insertion and removal of sheaths, guide wires and catheters.3.4 Demonstrates ability to competently assist physicians with miscellaneous Cath/IR Lab procedures, Thermo-dilution catheter, intra-aortic balloon pump prep and insertion, insertion and removal of temporary and permanent pacemakers.3.5 Exhibits thorough working knowledge of Cath/IR Lab equipment; power injector, radiology generators, defibrillator, hemodynamic monitoring system, and digital system, suction and oxygen equipment.3.6 Assists with post procedural care in an appropriate and competent manner. Able to clean and dress insertion site, assists with removal of sheaths, establishment of hemostasis.3.7 Adheres to hospital on-call guidelines. These include specified required days/evenings of call duty and adherence to response time. On-call duty includes 24-hour per day coverage, including weekends and holidays 4. Demonstrates competency in operation of hemodynamic/computer recording system. 4.1 Demonstrates competency in the use of hemodynamic monitors, computer system, printer, control room monitors, and digital system. 4.2 Enter pertinent patient data accurately to computer monitoring system. 4.3 Established monitoring parameters in a competent manner from a baseline EKG, BP, pulse oximeter and NIBP. Recognizes changes and records appropriately 4.4 Demonstrates ability to generate exam report using computer-monitoring system. 4.5 Retrieves patient data promptly and accurately as requested by utilizing computer data bank and digital equipment during procedure. 4.6 Charges patient accurately for procedures and supplies used during procedures. 4.7 Evidence of at least 500 hours of direct experience in PCI within past two years. For those candidates who cannot provide documentation of 500 hours of recent experience, satisfactory completion of a formal, focused, clinical refresher consisting of 25 interventional cases, as arranged by employer, will be considered 5. Maintains a safe unit environment.5.1 Maintains patient safety utilizing infection control policies and procedures, standard precautions, departmental safety protocols; i.e., safety rails fall prevention.5.2 Adheres to hospital safety plan (i.e., body mechanics, standard precautions, and maintaining a clean working environment.)5.3 Ensures that supplies and equipment returned to sterile processing are free of excessive soiling.5.4 Ensures appropriate documentation of any patient or visitor complaint or incident.5.5 Ensures procedure room is cleaned in appropriate manner after each procedure/case.6. Contributes to the effective communication and effective operation of the department.6.1 Participates with valid input and suggestions during departmental meetings.6.2 Accurately updates procedure log.6.3 Maintains adequate supplies/equipment according to established par level protocol.6.4 Provides accurate patient information to license nursing staff and/or physician as indicated.6.5 Communicates any physician concerns or regards to department manager.6.6 Demonstrates the ability to respond to an emergency situation according to policy and procedure as directed.6.7 Responsible for reporting equipment failure to department manager and/or service representative as indicated 7. Demonstrates a commitment to continued self-growth and maintenance of competency. 7.1 Maintains BCLS / ACLS certification. 7.2 Maintains copy of current licensure on file. 7.3 Satisfactorily completes competency testing/skills validation within three (3) months of hire and yearly. 7.4 Attends 100% of hospital-required in-services. 7.5 Attends 100% of required department meetings. 7.6 Identifies own learning needs, goals and seeks direction to meet those needs. 8. Performs age specific patient assessment demonstrating awareness of growth and development for each age group. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific assessment, recognizing psychosocial levels and development patterns. Provides for age appropriate stimulation and learning needs. 8.1 Demonstrates knowledge of cohort-isolation principles in relationship to patients’ age, disease and/or pathogenic organisms. 8.2 Applies knowledge of age appropriate needs when assessing/caring for elderly patients. Addresses concerns of adult and elderly patients according to psychosocial and developmental needs. 8.3 Performs patients care skills specific to adult and elderly patients. Demonstrates knowledge of routine and emergency care specific to the adult or elderly patient. 8.4 Proficiency in the English language is required for performance of duties. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduate of accredited school of Radiologic Technology required.
