Summary of Position The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world's premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located at Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and movie-making.The Curator Exhibitions is responsible for the conceptualization of a range of different scaled exhibitions and projects. You will also work in collaboration with filmmakers and artists, as well as advise and participate in interpretive initiatives. You Will: * Work collaboratively with the curatorial team in developing content for the museum, share and discuss ideas and expertise, enhance the development of junior staff, and actively support the department's infrastructure.* Conduct research in film and cultural history related to potential exhibitions, publications, lectures, conferences, symposia, collection guides and interpretive public programs.* Conceptualize and organize exhibitions of different scales ranging from major thematic or monographic exhibitions to more focused exhibitions as well as artist/filmmaker projects.* Develop checklists and moving images components, formulate the structure and design approach of exhibitions, secure loans, write text for didactic materials and scholarly catalogues or other types of publications.* Participate in developing a project team, formulating the budget, developing tours, assessing conservation needs, resolving installation issues, initiating related outreach and interpretive programs.* Work closely with other Academy Museum staff members regarding programming, education, communication, collection management and exhibition management.* Identify objects for potential acquisition. Recommend new acquisitions to collections curator and participate in acquisition meetings. Also participates in the de-accessioning process.* Initiate contact with filmmakers, scholars, curators, critics, authors, and other colleagues in the field.* Interface with Academy Members and Advisory groups.* Engage the public and disseminate knowledge on the Academy collection, programs and film history through exhibitions, publications, lectures, symposia, gallery talks, and other innovative public programs.* Work with Development staff to cultivate donations of funds, goods and services. You Have:* MA in film studies, museum studies, or related field, PhD preferred* 5+ years museum experience* Experience conceptualizing, researching, planning, installing, and touring international loan exhibitions* Worked with living artists/ filmmakers on projects or exhibitions* Expertise in film history and contemporary art related to moving image work* Demonstrated experience in public speaking and publishing* Management experience recblid p2ngb2qakz5dl9g28w03wk33p3llia
