Position Description: Responsibilities: The Assessment Librarian serves as the coordinator of all library assessment activities. The Assessment Librarian assumes a prominent role in strategic planning, budgeting, and communication.The responsibilities of the Assessment Librarian include:* Leads the library assessment program, participating in all activities that measure and communicate the Libraries' effectiveness and value in meeting library and institutional goals for student success and faculty productivity.* Manages and coordinates all library assessment activities.* Serves as assessment consultant and provides expertise to managers librarians and staff.* Applies principles of project management to assessment projects.* Provides input to the libraries strategic planning process organizing/analyzing assessment data to produce custom reports that support strategic evidence-based management practices.* Serves as the coordinator of all library assessment activities, implements ways to demonstrate the library's value to the institution.* Communicate and work effectively with librarians and staff in public services, technical services, and collections units to improve library services.* Demonstrate and apply current national initiatives (i.e. LibQual, IPEDS/NCES, Ithaka Survey, balance scorecard, value of academic libraries, etc.), influential library assessment methods and relevant library standards.* Ensures that data in analyzed with integrity and honesty; understands research design; demonstrates an understanding of research design and prepares and analyzes data ethically and legally.* Analyze library statistics and make recommendations related to services, staffing, and other areas.* Selects the appropriate tools or solutions and aligns the assessment activity with the institutional mission and priorities and provides documentation explaining and justifying its use.* Applies quantitative and qualitative assessment methods with the ability to implement and integrate multiple methods for a mixed method approach.* Design assessment instruments and approve those designed by other members of the libraries.* Stays current with regional and disciplinary accreditation compliance requirements, including data requirements specific to the library.* Manage different approaches to assessment and utilizing input, output, outcomes and impact measures.* Demonstrates knowledge and skills of analytical tools (databases, spreadsheets, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis and data visualization).* Take a leadership role in related professional organizations.* Visualize and implement roadmap for attaining optional data collection and reporting processes including data automation and integration of multiple data sources.* Identifies and defines metrics and data sets needed to measure assessment outcomes that are considered high priority.* Promotes participation in library assessment activities and creates evidence-based narratives that promote library value and that connect library value to the university mission.* Proactively establishes, develops and maintains partnerships. Contributes to joint initiatives.* Acts as a catalyst for change by establishing a shared vision for assessment, conceiving an assessment action plan and designing and implementing an assessment program that will meet library and institutional goals.* Utilizes assessment results to inform decisions, solve problems, make plans and set policies.* Trains others appropriately identified throughout the library in order to develop expertise, knowledge and skills in assessment.* Promotes a culture of assessment and encourages broad engagement by all level of library faculty and staff in assessment projects.The Assessment Librarian is a member of the Texas Tech Libraries faculty whose responsibilities include actively pursuing academic publishing, professional development, instruction, and service to the Library, University, and community.QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program and typically five years library experience. Knowledge of professional library techniques and current library practices.PREFERRED: Evidence of outstanding leadership ability. Strong service orientation. Evidence of good judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, student and community members.Effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience with computer applications including electronic information resources. Involvement in professional activities and commitment to continued professional development.
