Together, these divisions operate 49 public radio stations and 42 translators serving regional audiences in eight states from Minnesota, Michigan and the Upper Midwest to Idaho and California; distribute a portfolio of more than twenty national programs reaching nearly 20MM listeners weekly through 1,000 radio stations; serve rapidly growing audiences on digital, social and mobile platforms; and produce an increasing and diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, mental health, water, early brain development, business and investigative journalism. Your Role: As the Director, Diversity & Inclusion you champion the importance and value of a diverse, inclusive work environment and lead the development of a vision and effective strategy to strengthen APMG's organizational culture of inclusion, equity, and diversity. The D&I leader actively engages employees and leaders to develop behaviors, attitudes, and practices that attract, develop, and retain a highly engaged workforce. This is a strategic role in the American Public Media Group HR COE, with leadership responsibility in the areas of diversity, workplace culture and inclusion, and employee engagement.The ideal candidate will have broad and deep experience in providing both strategic guidance and operational execution, and a desire and commitment to living our organizational values: We focus on Audiences. Position Responsibility: The Director, Diversity & Inclusion will develop, implement and evolve organization-wide D&I strategies in partnership with key stakeholders and in alignment with the strategic plan and organizational objectives. This leader will collaborate with HR colleagues and business leaders to cultivate and integrate inclusive practices that strengthen the cultural competence of the organization. Infuse diversity and inclusion concepts across all talent management processes and practices (e.g., talent acquisition, assessment, performance management, employee development, succession, etc.), providing expertise, training and support around inclusive talent practices. Provide expertise and consultation to leaders for establishing and meeting organizational culture and diversity goals, objectives, and strategies; develop and communicate plans to meet established goals. Develop data-driven approaches to influence decision making practices and communication of divisional and organizational successes and stories. Establish D&I accountability measures and metrics in support of APMG's strategic plan; fulfill reporting, compliance, and disclosure requirements of relevant government rules and regulations, as assigned; manage the Affirmative Action Plan. Provide guidance and leadership to all levels of the organization in creating a culture of trust and respect; courageously urge leaders (formal and informal) to embrace new situations, thinking, ideas and environments to expand their perspectives and outreach efforts. Provide effective leadership to ERG/Interest groups and their leadership teams, ensuring alignment and integration of strategic plans, budgets and programming. Recommend, or develop and deliver, training programs that integrate diversity, equity & inclusion principles. Assess and advise on complex and nuanced employee relations situations as appropriate. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and coursework in field required; Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, or equivalent experience. 8+ years' progressively responsible experience working with organizational diversity and inclusion initiatives; required experience with/understanding of employment practices through a D&I lens, with at least 2 years' experience operating at the strategic/enterprise level. Experience developing, implementing, and measuring D&I strategies and initiatives. Experience designing and delivering D&I-specific training and assessing the effectiveness of such training. Experience managing and implementing Affirmative Action Plans required. Experience coaching all levels of management with successful outcomes. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Deep functional knowledge of D&I best practices; working knowledge of US laws and guidelines related to diversity. Broad business acumen; ability to contribute to strategic direction, actively lead/participate in strategic discussions, and represent the organization. Ability to influence, build strong relationships and balance interests of multiple stakeholders. Strong facilitation and presentation skills; proficient with technology and social media platforms, e.g., MS Office, UltiPro, presentation tools, and other systems and online tools as necessary. Strong interpersonal skills; outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to skillfully challenge the "norm," and have difficult and uncomfortable conversations at all levels of the organization. Preferred Skills and Experience: MBA or MAIR / MA in OD, Human Resources, I/O Psychology, Organizational Leadership, or related field. IDI certification strongly preferred; ability to become IDI certified is required. Previous experience/strong proficiency with the HR body of knowledge. Experience working with employees in multiple locations. Experience with both non-profit and for-profit companies. Strong interest in APMG's mission to reach new audiences. Reporting to This Position: None. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Some domestic travel is required, approx. 5-10%. Physical Demands: Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time. Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping. Working Conditions: Moderate noise level. Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions.
