# RPM The incumbent in this job is expected to assist the College in achieving its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.The Vice President for Student Services ( VPSS ) provides dynamic and effective leadership to a comprehensive student services division. In collaboration with other units at the college, the VPSS works to enhance student learning and success in accordance with the colleges strategic plan. The VPSS promotes consistency of service delivery by ensuring college policies and procedures are fairly administered using a customer friendly approach. Additionally, the VPSS ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Lastly, the VPSS ensures continuous assessment and improvement of division-wide efforts to create and sustain a diverse and inclusive community of learners. Areas reporting to the Vice President include Athletics, Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions & Recruitment, Student Conduct, Academic Advising, Student Success & Retention, Counseling, Disability Access Services, Assessment Center, Student Life, International Student Support, Career Services, and Early Middle College / Career & College Promise. Duties/Functions Works closely with the President to accomplish the Colleges goals, objectives and strategic plans, established in cooperation with the Board of Trustees. Provides executive level leadership and vision developing and implementing a comprehensive range of student-oriented services, policies and procedures across all campuses and student demographics to positively impact student success. Ensures that student services are provided at all campuses in an efficient, customer-friendly, student-centered manner. Collaborates with all areas of the college in operating a high quality, student-focused division. Works with students to resolve issues/complaints regarding services as required. Leads and evaluates personnel within the Student Services area to ensure they are meeting their position responsibilities to include strategic plan objectives, committee assignments and ad hoc college service assignments. Develops and manages budgets for all areas of responsibility within the division. Implements and assesses student services activities/strategies and allocates resources for programs and services within the colleges strategic framework to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as to provide individuals with professional and personal growth. Collaborates with Institutional Research to provide timely and accurate analysis of enrollment and student success data that will assist the President, Board of Trustees and other college leaders in managing their areas to positively impact student success. Serves on the College Leadership Team. Collaborates with other college leaders to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to attain the colleges strategic objectives. Represents the College to various external entities and with outside agencies in matters relating to the Colleges student services. Assumes responsibility for other College affairs and matters at the discretion and in the absence of the College President. Demonstrates and models the Colleges values: collaboration, learning, accessibility, excellence, integrity, and inclusion.Additional Duties & Responsibilities: Participate in national and state community college and professional organizations to maintain currency in the issues and skills related to student services. Work with college faculty and staff in planning and coordinating special events. Other duties as assigned by the President. Difficult Challenges Contacts Education Required Masters degree in higher education administration or related degree from an accredited institution Education Preferred Doctorate in higher education administration or related degree from an accredited institution Experience Required Five years of progressively responsible experience, leading student services or similar operations in a large organization. Experience in the successful supervision of a large staff to achieve organizational and unit goals. Comprehensive skills in supervising and building a highly effective work team. Experience in developing and managing budgets. Experience with contemporary customer/student services and/or enrollment management operations and/or strategies. Experience Preferred Greater than five years of progressively responsible experience leading student services operations at the post-secondary level. Greater than three years of experience within one of the operational units in student services. Experience at a multi-campus community college. KSA Required Demonstrated operational and business management skills that foster a climate of data driven decision-making based using best practices in Student Services. Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with academic and operational areas across campuses to achieve college goals. Demonstrated effectiveness and sensitivity to a multicultural environment and a commitment to campus-wide educational equity and retention efforts; proven comprehensive skills to advocate for inclusivity of diverse student populations. Ability to develop and implement college-wide initiatives in student success to include enrollment, retention, completion and equity. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, make informed recommendations based upon reasonable projections of results and then implement the chosen course of action to achieve the projected result. Ability to plan budgets to focus resources toward the achievement of the colleges strategic plan. Knowledge of mediation and/or conflict resolution strategies and methods. Knowledge of the current issues in community colleges and trends in student affairs and development. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work closely with others, including constituents, peers, and subordinates. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with the application of technology to student services. Proficient in the use of Word processing, e-mail, and the web for daily tasks. KSA Preferred Department/Job Specific Requirements Must establish residency within Guilford County within one year of hire. Oversee and coordinate activities under grants, including writing reports and proposals.The following (compliance) training is required and must be completed within the first 30 days of hire with annual refresher training thereafter: Ethics Safety/Shooter on Campus Personal Information Protection Training ( PIP ) Anti-Discrimination/Harassment & Title IX Other training may be required as determined applicable. Physical Demands Office setting may include prolonged sitting, keyboarding, and/or standing. Some public speaking and community engagement.
