Covid – 19 Vaccination Requirements for Head Start Positions: For all Head Start positions, proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 or an approved religious or medical exemption must be submitted to Human Resources prior to beginning work. This is in addition to other required screenings and background checks is a requirement of employment. For any Head Start staff granted a religious or medical exemption, effective 1/31/22 weekly (every seven days) Covid-19 testing is required as a condition of employment per Head Start requirement. Working in partnership with assigned classroom staff, the CDC Assistant will engage in nurturing relationships with children, planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate learning environment with meaningful experiences that prepares them for successful transition to kindergarten. The CDC Assistant will also work in collaboration with staff to promote family engagement and partnerships in the children's learning. In addition, the CDC Assistant will provide light administrative support to the assigned Child Development Center. Responsibilities include compliance with federal and state Head Start Performance Standards, Agency/Head Start Policies and Procedures, and Oregon Childcare Division regulations. Essential Functions and Responsibilities : Act as a substitute teacher, as needed, and will perform the following duties while in the classroom, in absence or support of the assigned teacher: In collaboration with staff, maintain a safe, healthy, orderly and nurturing classroom environment. Develop and maintain consistent, positive relationships with children, treating them with dignity and respect. Assist in setting up environment (indoor/outdoor) for the activities of the day. Follow the established schedule of the classroom to provide consistency for the children. Follow and support established Primary Care Routines and Philosophies (Early Head Start classrooms only). Apply developmentally appropriate guidance and behavior management according to program policy. Utilize lesson plans as prepared by the regular teacher (or provide assistance to the teaching team in development of lesson plans if none are available) which reflect mandated elements, parental cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children. Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers. Ensure that no child is left alone or unsupervised at any time. Facilitate safe and effective transitions between activities as needed. Support a welcoming classroom environment by modeling respectful behavior towards all children, parents and peers. Maintain confidentiality according to program policies and procedures in terms of documentation, recordkeeping, etc. Become familiar with individual goals for children as identified in the My Teaching Strategies Family Conference form. Observe and record behaviors of children to assist the teacher in the identification of each child's strengths and areas to grow. Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom. Welcome and engage parent volunteers. Work in partnership with classroom staff to encourage collaborative team interaction that embraces diversity and constructive problem solving. Ensure the successful inclusion of children with special needs in the regular classroom and work with Early Childhood Special Education staff to identify and provide appropriate services for them. Attend meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities when required. Provide administrative assistance and support to the Program Area Supervisor of the Child Development Center in the following ways, including but not limited to: Provide prompt and accurate administrative support including but not limited to: submitting work orders, distributing mail, laminating, and composing, reviewing, and sending newsletters and other written or electronic correspondences. Assist in general maintenance and security of facility. Schedule substitutes and assist with maintaining substitute database. Ensure that orders, purchases and distribution of supplies are completed and maintained. Anticipate workload needs and effectively plan time and resources necessary to execute tasks on time. Act as the "substitute director" of the assigned Child Development Center, per licensing regulations, when the Program Area Supervisor is not on site. In this capacity, the CDC Assistant will be "authorized, able, and available to correct a deficiency that might be an immediate threat to the children's health or safety" per licensing requirements. Strictly adhere to all safety policies and procedures at all times and respond/correct any at-risk safety issues immediately. Strictly adhere to agency code of ethics and standards of workplace behavior. Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs including regular and reliable attendance and adherence to all company workplace behavior standards. Marginal Functions and Responsibilities : Other marginal functions and responsibilities as assigned. Required Education/Training/Experience : Education: Minimum of an Associate's Degree in the field of Early Childhood Education OR an Associate's Degree in a field related to early childhood education that includes coursework sufficient to be placed at Step 9 or higher on the Oregon Registry. Acceptable coursework would be a minimum of 20 quarter college credits or 13 semester college credits in at least 5 Core Knowledge Categories (as defined by Oregon Registry). Transcripts, diplomas and/or Oregon Registry Step Certificates are required to validate educational requirements. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience: Minimum of one year experience teaching in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program in the care of children ages 0-5. Access to reliable transportation for home visits, valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with families. Intermediate computer literacy and familiarity with applications such as databases and spreadsheets, word processing, email and internet. Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment. Completion of appropriate Fit for Duty and TB Testing according to Head Start regulations prior to date of hire. Preferred : Bachelor's Degree or higher in the field of Early Childhood Education OR a Bachelor's Degree or higher out of the field that includes coursework sufficient to be placed at Step 9 or higher on the Oregon Registry (see acceptable coursework requirements under "Required Education" above). Bilingual in English/Spanish, written and verbal. 2+ years experience teaching children ages 0 - 5 years of age. Prior Head Start program experience. Training and/or education in working with children with special needs . Required Licensing or Other Special Certifications : Current Oregon Registry Step Certificate (or acquired within 90 days from date of hire). Current First Aid/CPR certification (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire). Current Oregon Food Handler Card (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire). Required Physical Demands of Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Work is conducted mostly in a classroom environment. Occasional phone use. Occasional use of video terminal and keyboarding. Ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in the classroom and outdoor play areas. Physical ability to move quickly in order to redirect children for the purpose of insuring a child's safety or the safety of others in the environment. Ability to respond appropriately both physically and mentally to en emergency or crisis situation, such as to provide CPR and/or First Aid to a pre-school age child, to evacuate a building, etc. In normal work day, may stand/walk __4__ hrs/day; may sit _ 4_ hrs/day; may drive __ 1 hrs/week; may use hands for repetitive grasping, pushing and pulling, typing and fine manipulation _ 2_ hrs/day; may use hands at or above shoulder level for _ 1_ hrs/day. In normal work day, may bend, squat, and/or climb frequently. Frequent kneeling, stooping, bending and sitting on the floor or in small chairs. Work is light in nature, occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Occasional lifting of a child weighing up to 60 lbs. May require walking or standing to a significant degree, or sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
