Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Heavy Truck Driver. An employee in this position performs manual labor in the operation of light to heavy duty trucks and motorized equipment to repair and maintain trunkline, primary/local roads and right-of-way. WCRC is the county-level road agency in Washtenaw County, Michigan. WCRC is responsible for maintaining a road system that is reasonable safe and convenient to the traveling public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.) Operates heavy-duty dump trucks with snowplows, underbody blades, sand and salt spreaders and liquid applications to remove ice and snow accumulation from roadways. Performs manual labor; digs ditches; cleans and installs culverts; removes debris from roadway and shoulders; prepares potholes, cracked, and broken pavement for patching; loads and unloads tools, equipment and materials. Serves as traffic regulator on road maintenance crews; directs traffic around hazards or crews in the roadway; sets out temporary road signs, traffic cones and barricades at work sites. Operates trucks, trailers and related equipment; hauls and dumps road maintenance and repair materials, including asphalt, rock, liquid asphalt, dirt and culvert pipes; loads and transports road equipment. Operates chain saw, skid steer, chipper and related equipment to remove and/or trim fallen and existing trees and brush. Performs pre-trip/post-trip inspections, minor servicing, adjustment and maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Performs crack seal operations that involve guiding emulsion wands over cracks in the roadway; fills cracks with hot bituminous emulsion and shovels stone chips from back of vehicle. Keeps assigned vehicles and equipment clean, orderly and equipped with necessary tools and supplies. Records materials, supplies, time and equipment used for each work project for proper billing or record keeping. REQUIREMENTS Qualified individuals will be expected to have: One (1) year of experience in highway maintenance, highway or building construction, farming, forestry or landscaping or any labor intensive work experience that directly involves the skills required to operate machinery, small tools, power tools, vehicles and equipment. A high school diploma or equivalent. A valid Michigan Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no restrictions (excluding "K") and an "N" (tank) endorsement.
