REINSURANCE CLAIMS EXAMINER (REMOTE) MUTUAL RE is currently accepting applications for a Reinsurance Claims Examiner, which is a remote position. GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Reinsurance Claims Examiner is responsible for all reinsurance claim activities of the company. This includes proactively managing a caseload of property/casualty claims and all related activities necessary to bring the claims to resolution. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish and manage reinsurance claim files. Determine coverage based on contract wordings and loss documentation. Establish timely case reserves and additional case reserves within authority. Approve reinsurance claim payments based on contract terms within authority. Maintain file data requirements for claims. Maintain active diary. Prepare Large Loss Reports on claims meeting the large loss threshold. Respond to inquiries from internal and external parties. Conduct claim audits on new and existing business, prepare audit reports and make account renewal recommendations. Supervise various personnel assisting in claim functions. Miscellaneous filing and related record retention duties. Review and destroy supporting documentation for obsolete claims. Monitor current developments in reinsurance and insurance claim handling and related laws. Participate in the ongoing development of claim handling policies and procedures, including the review and implementation of processes, systems, and strengthening of internal controls. SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree. Preferably with emphasis in business, finance, or insurance. Minimum 5 years relevant work experience in the insurance industry with property/casualty claim handling. Preferably with experience in property/casualty reinsurance claim handling. Advanced industry designation preferred or in progress. Good organizational and time management skills. Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Ability to multi-task, learn quickly, monitor work product, and take ownership of work performed. Good customer service skills for dealing with external parties and working cross-functionally with other departments.
