Middle School Reading Specialist The Position Holy Cross School is seeking a Middle School Reading Specialist for the 2023-24 academic year.The Reading Specialist provides reading instruction and support to produce high quality outcomes in reading for students in grade 5, 6, and 7. As a member of the English department, the Reading Specialist assists with establishing school wide and individual reading goals and provides instruction to enhance reading skills. The Reading Specialist is responsible for creating and supporting a culture of dedicated readers that consists of strong reading instruction and a love for reading.This is a 10-month position, August - May. Faculty are expected to be at Holy Cross School at 7:30 a.m. and remain after school until 3:30 p.m. in order to be available to students.A full-time faculty member's workload shall ordinarily be five classes, substitution period, a homeroom/activity period assignment, and a preparation period. The Director of Curriculum & Instruction and Principal shall determine the specific commitments of the day. Extracurricular commitments are not included in the eight hours. The school year shall consist of 190 days, included in these days are regular school days, in-service days, and opening-closing days. Qualifications  Bachelor's degree from a college or university approved by a regional accrediting organization required; master's degree in literacy or a related field preferred. Must hold or be working toward a valid teaching certificate with the reading specialist add-on from the State of Louisiana. Other qualifications include:  Desire to continue professional development. Excellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. An ability and enthusiasm for promoting the school and its mission to a broad and diverse group of people. Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to perform tasks assigned. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community. Must pass extensive background check. Primary Duties & Responsibilities  Plan, prepare and deliver reading curricula, lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials tostudents. Provide strategies to improve instruction that will support literacy growth across the curriculum. Prepare and administer all required formative and summative assessments. Collect and analyze data to measure the success of literacy programs and instruction. Conduct individual and school wide assessments to evaluate reading and literacy levels and targetedinterventions. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
