Job Summary Drives emergency vehicle to transport ill, injured, or convalescent persons to and from the hospital and assists EMT's in lifting and transferring persons to and from stretcher Qualifications Education High School graduate or equivalent Licensure/Certification Must possess a current Iowa driver's licenseMust be certified in BLS Knowledge and Skills Must have knowledge necessary to competently and safely drive emergency vehicle and assist with performing minor emergency first aid. Must complete Emergency Vehicle Drive Course Service Skills Must demonstrate strong customer service skills, display a high degree of empathetic understanding, tact and kindness toward others, ability to communicate well and work effectively with others, be a team player. Physical Demands Work is medium to heavy demand. Required to lift and/or carry 100 lbs or more on occasional basis, over 50 lbs frequently and 20 lbs or more occasionally Lifting, pulling, and pushing patients, stretchers and wheelchairs Frequent reaching, handling, grasping Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, and standing Near visual acuity required to drive, read instructions and other written documentation Ability to hear and speak clearly Working Conditions Works inside and outside. May be exposed to extreme cold (100 degrees F) for periods of up to one hour or more May be exposed to atmospheric conditions with one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation May be exposed to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electric current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals or toxic materials May be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases. Direct Patient Care Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient's status. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the primary population of patients served in the department. Job Specific responsibilities related to departmental key functions Rapid Response: Maintains on-call status as scheduled Responds to emergency calls in an expeditious manner Assists EMTs: Assists with administering first aid such as bandaging and splinting Assists with lifting and carrying patients into and out of emergency vehicle Demonstrates knowledge of location of all supplies and equipment in the emergency vehicle in order to retrieve items as necessary for EMTs Displays proficiency in use of equipment as appropriate for driver Radio Communication: Communicates effectively via radio with dispatch Maintains professionalism in communication Patient Transport: Safely drives emergency vehicle in accordance with Iowa Law. Drives in appropriate manner, not to endanger lives of bystanders, patients, co-workers and other drivers. Wears seat belt at all times. Maintains emergency vehicles, medical, and communication equipment after each call Checks fuel level and fills tank if necessary Mops and cleans inside of emergency vehicle Cleans all equipment used Replaces linen on cart Assists EMTs in replacing all supplies used Notifies team leader or Administrative Director of needed repairs on vehicles and equipment as needs arise Additional responsibilities Demonstrates behaviors that support the hospital's mission, vision, and values. Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to hospital safety and infection control plans. Demonstrates knowledge of and actively participate in the hospital's quality improvement plan. Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance to the hospital's compliance, HIPAA and confidentiality policies and procedures. Demonstrates strong customer service skills. Actively participates in departmental meetings, in-services and other training sessions relative to the job. Actively participates in hospital or departmental committees or work groups. Adapts easily to changes in work assignment and environment. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to perform additional tasks as assigned. Demonstrates positive communication skills within the department and organization. Portrays a positive attitude toward work and toward the organization. Demonstrates professionalism and interest in work by maintaining acceptable work habits and behaviors. Willingly assists co-workers with job duties. Demonstrates initiative and ability to adapt positively to change.
