About Us Sylvia Woods, the "Queen of Soul Food," was the founder and owner of the world famous Sylvia's Restaurant, located in the historical village of Harlem, since 1962. In 1944, Sylvia and her Husband Herbert, moved to Harlem NY, where she became a waitress at Johnson's luncheonette. After several years of dedicated service, Mr. Johnson recognized Sylvia's entrepreneurial spirit and sold her the luncheonette.The once small luncheonette which consisted of 15 stools and six booths, has now flourished into a family-owned enterprise which consists of: Sylvia's Restaurant in Harlem, Sylvia's Also, a full-service catering hall, Special Events Division, a nationwide line of Sylvia's Food Products, two deliciously amazing cookbooks, and ATOC, Inc., a real estate holding company. Line/Grill Cook Responsibilities Setting up, cleaning, and organizing work stations Prepare all dishes according to Sylvia's recipes Cooking items according to food health and safety standards Handling multiple food orders at one time. Delivering food to the Line in a timely manner Storing all food properly Assisting other cooks in preparing food or helping other team members when needed Requirements Able to work in a fast-paced environment Self-motivated and self-directed Works well as part of a team and on individual tasks Able to quickly memorize complex or multiple orders 2+ years' experience as a Cook in the restaurant industry Able to work early mornings, nights, and weekends Physically able to stand and move for long periods of time; able to bend and kneel through shift; able to lift up to 50 pounds or more Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Benefits: Employee discount Flexible schedule Referral program Pre-tax medical plan tax saving transportation program Paid time off Physical Setting: Kitchen Schedule: Holidays Monday to Friday Weekend availability Experience: Restaurant Experience: 2 year Work Location: One location
