About Us Sylvia Woods, the "Queen of Soul Food," was the founder and owner of the world famous Sylvia's Restaurant, located in the historical village of Harlem, since 1962. In 1944, Sylvia and her Husband Herbert, moved to Harlem NY, where she became a waitress at Johnson's luncheonette. After several years of dedicated service, Mr. Johnson recognized Sylvia's entrepreneurial spirit and sold her the luncheonette.The once small luncheonette which consisted of 15 stools and six booths, has now flourished into a family-owned enterprise which consists of: Sylvia's Restaurant in Harlem, Sylvia's Also, a full-service catering hall, Special Events Division, a nationwide line of Sylvia's Food Products, two deliciously amazing cookbooks, and ATOC, Inc., a real estate holding company.The world famous Sylvia's Restaurant is seeking a Host/Cashier to join our team. Under the direction of our Managers, the Host/Cashier is responsible for creating a welcoming environment for our guests by ensuring that each guest is promptly greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner and accommodating each party with swift attention. The cashier is responsible for managing cash and credit card transactions. The host is responsible for seating guests in the dining room in accordance with the table seating chart and availability. Qualified candidates must: Enthusiastically greet customers entering restaurant Greet guests and navigate them to the waiting areas Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs and coordinate with servers so they receive an appropriate number of tables Have a great work ethic and commitment to uncompromising quality Have the ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment Have basic to intermediate English communication skills The ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries or transfer calls Maintain the restaurant with regards to cleanliness, neatness and customer accessibility Work as a team member to support other restaurant employees in their duties Follow directions on other duties as assigned by General Manager or Assistant Manager Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Benefits: Employee discount Flexible schedule Referral program Pre-tax medical plan Tax saving transportation program Paid time off Physical Setting: Bar Casual dining restaurant Fine dining restaurant Schedule: Holidays Monday to Friday Weekend availability Experience: Restaurant Experience: 1 year (Preferred) Work Location: One location
