Is looking to support the Health Administration Service of the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System by providing fourteen (14) Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).REQUIREMENTS:1- We need fourteen (14) Emergency Medical Technicians, Hours of work may be flexible, bothfull-time and part-time as determined by the VA. Overtime and Holiday Hours may beauthorized as determined by the VA.2- Offeror shall provide copies of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification and FirstAid Certification for staff members proposed to perform services. The proposed staff members provided to satisfy SP1 must be the same as those provided to satisfy SP2.3- Offeror shall provide copies of valid California Department of Transportation Class B withPassenger P Endorsement and air brake Commercial Drivers License (CDL) for 2staff members proposed to perform services. The proposed staff members provided tosatisfy SP2 must be the same as those provided to satisfy SP1.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1- The EMT shall work with the Veterans Transportation Service to provide transportationservices for veterans in inpatient ambulatory settings, facilitate the manual transportation ofambulatory, wheelchair, and/or gurney-bound patients, and perform ongoing patient care dutiesduring patient transport.2- The EMT shall transport patients to and from vehicles and their healthcare appointments.3- The EMT shall transport and/or assist in the transportation of patients from their homes totheir healthcare appointments on VA campuses or return patients from receiving healthcare onVA campuses to their homes.4- The EMT shall verify passengers against manifest and complete paperwork such as trip ticketsand records indicating the amount and type of fuel dispensed. The EMT shall adhere to all State,local, and installation traffic laws and ordinances. The EMT shall be required to maneuver thevehicle in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets/roadways and congestedparking lots which include maneuvering the bus around sharp corners.5- The EMT shall operate and provide preventative maintenance checks and services for patienttransport vehicles (e.g. monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checkingtire pressure and hose connections, and washing the vehicle). The EMT is required to operate avariety of passenger buses on scheduled or special runs from one location to another. They arerequired to operate passenger ambulance buses which are equipped with litter facilities and othermedical support equipment. These vehicles are driven with the same medical mission, drivingconditions, and requirements as described for ambulance/patient transport vehicle drivers at thelower grade level, except that the EMT operates larger and longer vehicles occupied by patients,patient family members, and medical personnel.6- The EMT shall prioritize transport for patients and may employ a variety of establishedtechniques, methods, and equipment during transport to the appropriate destination.7- The EMT shall follow safety procedures, utilize safety equipment, and monitor the workenvironment to ensure the safety of patients and employees.8- The EMT shall independently recognize unusual or life-threatening situations and actaccording to established protocols. The EMT shall independently intervene using establishedprotocols (Basic or Advanced Life Support) to prevent deterioration of the patient's condition orrestore hemodynamic stability and provide continuous observation and monitoring until thepatient is transferred for definitive treatment.9- The EMT is the first contact with the veterans and is responsible for making the first positiveimpression. The EMT shall interact in a courteous and respectful manner with a wide variety ofpeople each day.310- The EMT shall routinely coordinate transportation activities with the VeteransTransportation Staff. The EMT shall be responsible for keeping a record of passengers andensuring pick-ups and drop-offs are for the correct individual and address. The EMT shall notmake unscheduled or unapproved stops.11- Shall be familiar with Patient-Centered Care culture in healthcare.12- Shall hold Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification.13- Shall hold valid California Department of Transportation Class "B" with Passenger "P"endorsement and air brake Commercial Drivers License (CDL).14- Shall be familiar with the National Department of Transportation and multi-stateguidelines/policies governing motor vehicle operators and be well versed in every aspect ofpatient safety during transport.
