Position Summary The SBA Department Manager oversees a team of commercial and SBA loan officers. In addition, the manager works closely with the retail network to ensure goals are achieved and customer needs are met. Essential Functions Working with the Chief Lending Officer, develop and implement strategies to prudently grow the loan portfolio and meet existing and emerging customer needs. Generate business for LO's by acquiring new customers and cross-selling and expanding business with existing customers. Assist LO's in assembling loan requests to ensure they as eligible per SBA guidelines and, when possible, structured in a way which will maximize loan sale fee income. Oversee SBA loan sales and reports on loan sale fee income. Lead the team of loan officers to evaluate customer creditworthiness, logically and prudently structure loan deals, and qualify applicants for approval. Ensure all loan requests meet SBA eligibility standards and comply with the SOP prior to the issuance of an LOI. Assist LO's in presenting deals to members of the Executive Committee. Ensure loans are processed within agreed upon timeframes and meet credit policy and SBA standards. Conduct regular sales meetings with the lending team to review sales activity and the loan pipeline. Ensure timely submission, approval, and closing of deals. Working with the Chief Lending Officer, develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and service standards; interpret and communicate work procedures and Bank policies to staff members. Coach and evaluate lending team on appropriate sales activity and skills. Identify the develop needs of loan officers; develop loan officer credit and sales skills through appropriate and timely performance management. Provide coaching and determine training needs for lending division and schedule appropriate training as needed. Define and communicate annual goals to loan officers. Conduct sales calls with the loan officers with the largest borrowers in each loan officer portfolio. Build network of COIs within Bank footprint to generate new business. Work with Marketing Department to design and implement marketing campaigns and loan promotions to build brand in market. Review and evaluate commercial loan officer performance against prescribed goals and Bank standards. Maintain membership in professional associations that enhance market presence and builds professional contacts. Assist attorneys with loan closing matters. Provide employees with guidance on handling difficult or complex problems or in resolving escalated complaints or disputes. Select and hire new loan officers to fill vacancies and meet loan demand. Report on lending activity to senior management and the Board. Assist with and sign off on all post-closing loan servicing requirements to ensure they comply with the SBA SOP. Update and adjust bank forms and documents relating to SBA loan production as needed to comply with any and all updated SOP's. Additional Functions Working with the Chief Lending Officer and Senior Credit Officer, recommend revisions and additions to loan policy and procedures. Recruit qualified loan officers as needed. Job Requirements and Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field required. Minimum 15 years commercial lending experience including SBA lending. Minimum 5 years commercial underwriting experience. Formal bank credit training. Licenses and Certifications N/A Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Expert knowledge of commercial credit underwriting concepts including financial statement, ratio, cash-flow, and tax return analysis and collateral valuation. Expert knowledge of lending principles, policies, and procedures. Strong knowledge of SBA program and standard operating procedures. Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate ideas and information effectively as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including proficiency in Word and Excel. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal documents, governmental regulations, financial reports and professional publications. Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from senior management, attorneys, vendors, government agents, and the general public. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work independently. Ability to provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management to subordinate staff members. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for long periods of time up to 75% of work hours. Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel. Ability to use computer keyboard and system to enter data and process information. Ability to talk, listen and see. Ability to use telephone to communicate with customers and employees. Ability to travel throughout Bank's market.
