* The Play/Art Therapist is a grant funded position; therefore, the duration of this position is subject to the guidelines outlined in the grant. SUMMARY The Play/Art Therapist will provide counseling and intervention to victims of sexual assault and their families. The Therapist will provide counseling for children, adolescents, and adults, using conventional assessment and diagnostic procedures to assess and determine the appropriate treatment for each client's current circumstance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's Degree in social work for related field required with specialized training in art/play therapy. State of Michigan Social Work License or licensed Professional Counselor. A minimum of two-years' experience providing substance abuse and mental health counseling is required. Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop treatment and case management plans in conjunction with clients input, team case consultation and the GTB Contractual Psychiatrist. Be able to independently assess, triage and accurately determine the appropriate treatment priority and modality for each client's current situation. Be responsible for maintaining a quality of care and clinical documentation in a manner consistent with Grand Traverse Band Behavioral Health Services Policies and Procedures, Tribal, State Licensure and Federal Regulations as well as the ethical standards of the helping professions adhering to CFR 42 part 2 confidentiality regulations. Participate in weekly staff meetings, case consultations, program development sessions, and community events as required. Advocate for client needs and rights as appropriate. Provide or coordinate appropriate client referrals for adjunct services as necessary for quality continuum of care. Participate in a rotation schedule to carry the BH after-hours cell phone. Provide appropriate interventions and coordination of crisis and/or emergency services Be required to write reports and testify in both State and Tribal Courts as required for their clients. Assess the needs of the client with family input where appropriate, developing goals and objectives, aftercare treatment plans, locating appropriate resources and assisting with appropriate referrals. Maintain regular contact with assigned clients in accordance with the program and grant guidelines. Assure the client's safety and well-being as their first priority regarding diagnosis, emotional wellness and living environments. Attend staff/team meetings, case conferences, and in-service trainings, etc. to share knowledge and acquire ongoing expertise in promoting optimum care. Accommodate his/her work schedule to client's availability and living arrangements. Provide education to the community and other GTB Departments on OVW sexual assault and sex trafficking, etc. Assist in completion of monthly, quarterly and year-end budget reports and grant narrative reports to ensure compliance and successful completion of objectives. The Therapist will participate in ongoing training, in-services and continuing education as required by Tribal, State and National Licensing Boards or Organizations for maintaining appropriate professional certification/licensures. Attendance at mandatory trainings involving travel may be required for grants on a periodic basis OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills Good time management and organizational skill are critical Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect Uses judgment in identifying and selecting the most appropriate procedures to use or in determining which of several established alternatives to use Situations not covered by precedents or guidelines are referred to the supervisor. In these cases, oral explanations and guidance are provided so that an understanding of the departmental function is gained. Advanced knowledge of play and art therapy modalities for young children, adolescents and adults is required. Be knowledgeable of trauma informed care best practices. Participate in ongoing training, in-services and continuing education as required by Tribal, State and National Licensing Boards or Organizations for maintaining appropriate professional certification/licensures. Demonstrated knowledge of the physical, psychological, and psychosocial effects of Grief, Substance Abuse, Abuse Issues and Historical Trauma on the individual and family relative to the Native American Population. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with co-occurring diagnosis and therapeutic techniques for individual, family and group dynamics with a special emphasis relative to the Native American Population. Applicable usage of Microsoft Windows operating system, Therascribe and other computer software such as Excel and Outlook. Effectively establishes priorities and meets deadlines Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action Minimum of one year of sobriety. All other job duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Master's Degree in social work for related field required with specialized training in art/play therapy. Adhere to the Ethical Standards and Code of Conduct of the position. DRIVING REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Michigan driver's license and be insurable by GTB's insurance carrier. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No supervisory responsibilities required EQUIPMENT TO BE USED General office equipment such as calculators, computers, copiers, fax, phone system, and so on TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Involves sedentary work, with some lifting, reaching and walking. Also requires manual dexterity to operate office equipment, keyboarding, and so on. TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS The complexity and responsibility inherent in this position requires the candidate to be able to perform independently, calmly and decisively, in response to the demands of the position and with above average ability. WORKING CONDITIONS May also provide services in jails, at schools, in hospitals, and other locations in the six county service areas. At times, these services are provided collaboratively with Tribal Law Enforcement, other law enforcement agencies and hospital emergency room or paramedic staff. During the delivering services, will be working with clients who may have HIV, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, as well as other infectious diseases Some assignments will involve clients recovering from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse with the potential to exhibit violent, suicidal or abusive behaviors. Normal office environment with anticipated automobile travel for client visits in all six-county service area. COMMENTS Native American preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy regarding confidentiality is a must.
