The City of Indianola's Public Works Department's is currently welcoming applications for the position of Street Sweeper. You will be working with the Streets Division. The City of Indianola (pop. 14,278) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, Bike Night, the Warren County Fair and other events. This position is responsible for several tasks, including, but not limited to: Operates a street sweeper to clean streets and city parking lots by keeping assigned routes up to date, responding to special situations such as accidents, cement spills and other debris; logging and reporting road hazards including abandoned vehicles, tree clearances, and pavement conditions. Organizes and conducts routes with consideration of timing, traffic conditions, and seasonal conditions. Perform preventive maintenance, general servicing, and minor repair of street sweeper equipment, such as, clean motor sweeper; check for brooms; reports mechanical or other equipment problems; checks and fills oil, filters, water, and fuel, etc. Position will require snow removal and on call work for snow removal operations as needed. Removes snow from streets and parking lots. This is a non union, seasonal position that will sweep from March or April to October at a 40 hour work week. On call snow plow operations when needed from November to March or April. With the total annual average of 29 hours per week. This position will be required to work weekdays, early mornings, nights, weekends, or holidays, depending on what is needed at the time. The successful candidate will have: High school diploma or GED; 18 years or older. Must possess a valid CDL with air brake certification, Class B, and has prior experience and training . Ability to understand an follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse weather conditions. *Please see attached job description for full duties and requirements* The hourly wage for this position starts at $17.50/hour. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening, background check, physical and physical capacity test. Position is open until filled.
