STARTER Job Title: Starter Reports To: Outside Services Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department Golf Supervises N/A Prepared Date: SUMMARY Responsible for controlling the pace of play on the golf course by directing players to the first tee at appropriate times. HOURS/DAYS Hours and Days fluctuate according to the time of year and activity level of the Club. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. Greet members and guests. Makes sure flags are in, golf balls are set up and the clock is accurate. Aware of the section of the range that is being used. Checks with the pro shop to see if there are any delays on starting times and corrections on tee sheet for the day. Reviews the updated tee sheet with the caddie master and bag attendants for any corrections. Checks periodically to make sure that the golf bags brought down from the valet are set up properly on the golf carts. Greets members and guests as they depart the building. Verifies with members on guest names, proper spelling and any corrections to be made on the tee sheet. Informs members of their tee times and which section of the range is open. Introduces caddies to members and guests. Verifies that players have paid appropriate fees. Carts charges are turned in at the end of the day. Cues the groups to move to the first tee. Makes certain no more than one group is on the tee at any one time. Spaces play to avoid on-course delays. Makes sure that players begin their round on time. Completes the starter's worksheet for each group. Communicates with the pro shop with regard to speed of play and any possible delays. Distributes scorecards, extra pencils and any information or assistance the players may need. Project a friendly, helpful attitude to all members and guests of the club. All other duties as assigned. High School Graduate or GED preferred Must demonstrate a proficient golf playing ability. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent interpersonal/communication and customer service skills. Maintains professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Ability to meet US employment eligibility requirements and company eligibility requirements. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Observes pace of play Requests slower playing groups to speed up pace, if appropriate Requests slower playing groups to allow others to play through, if appropriate Escorts unauthorized people from course Ensures that divots and ball marks are repaired Reports all infractions to Starter Ensures that sand traps are raked Carries and provides clean towels and water for ball washers Replaces towels on ball washers Replenishes water in ball washers Assists Starter at first tee during heavy demand periods Communicates with the pro shop with regard to speed of play and any possible delays.
