Remote Inpatient Medical Coder

Role & Responsibilities: Responsible for assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis and PCS codes for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations and Official Coding Guidelines. Utilize appropriate coding resources such as Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS). Abstract all clinical and statistical information as required Abide by AHIMA Code of Ethics Abstract data elements to satisfy statistical requests by the hospital, health system, medical staff, and enters all coded/abstracted information into the appropriate software program. Assists in implementing solutions to reduce back-end billing errors Review medical record data for validation and other purposes as defined by the client. Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Must possess either a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential from an accredited coding program and be an active member with AHIMA and/or AAPC. Minimum 2 years of facility coding experience. Profee coding experience is a plus. Proven history of maintaining 95% accuracy rating across all coding categories. Proficient with Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel. A strong understanding of physiology, medical terminology, and anatomy Proficiency in computer skills: Intermediate level experience with usage of Microsoft Word and Excel Mathematics skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Exceptional organizational skills Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of medical information Strict attention to details Desire to grow and learn new methodologies related to statistical coding, auditing, abstraction, etc. Work as a team player Preferred Skills: Long-Term Care (LTAC) hospital coding, FQHC coding and billing, Risk adjustment coding (HCC) Home health care coding and billing. Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) coding and billing, Inpatient Rehab Facility (IRF) coding. Additional Notes: Job requires extreme flexibility in work assignments. Coder should possess great time management in order to meet deadlines.
