Position Summary The nurse position is a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse who under the supervision of the Director of Health Services is responsible for the well being and nursing care of all residents assigned to him/her during a tour of duty. This includes conscientious documentation and drug administration and related duties per the Iowa Code regulating the practice of nursing.The nurse functions in a responsible and professional manner with the policies, philosophy, goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing. She/he demonstrates nursing responsibility and accountability for assigned residents and their families. The nurse accepts instruction and guidance from the supervisor nurse to provide interventions to achieve goals that are established for the plan of care to resolve nursing problems.The nurse is at risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens, including HIV, Hepatitis B virus, MRSA and VRE.The nurse position requires support of the chain of command and adherence to it. Position Qualifications This position requires that the individual be a graduate of an approved school of Nursing (RN or LPN) and possesses a current Iowa license. Follow all regulatory and reimbursement guidelines and document legibly as required. Participates in quality management activities and documents as required. Must adhere to the policies and procedures of SLLH. Has a good understanding of the proper administration of medications and their side effects. Willing to continually upgrade skills and knowledge. Able to accept instruction and guidance. Function effectively under stress/know the chain of command and utilize it when appropriate. Have the ability to exercise judgment in problem situations. Have the ability to communicate effectively face to face or by telephone. Be in good physical condition and able to withstand hours of standing, stooping, walking, bending and sitting without injury. Able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position, manual dexterity, good eye-to hand coordination and adequate vision needed in daily work. Able to read, speak and write fluent English. Knows and uses good body mechanics at all times on the job. No activity restrictions noted on physical and testing. Ability to handle and operate complex equipment. Flexibility in working hours and assignments. Honest, empathetic, accountable and have the ability to manage and supervise people. Able to lift 80-100 lbs. (resident transfers, etc.) Must not exceed 80-100 lbs. for lifting and must use mechanical or staff assistance as is recommended for each individual resident.Other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
