VINCE YAKOPOVICH JOB DESCRIPTION / PART-TIME SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER POSITION DESCRIPTION Division: Enforcement Status: Non-exempt Supervision Received: Shift 0.1.C. (Usually the Police Sergeant) Supervises: NIA Civil Service Status: NIA Probation: N/A Employment Status: Part-time At-Will Work Hours: Varied GENERAL RESPONSIBILTIIES Ensure a safe learning environment and deter misconduct by remaining highly visible in the halls, cafeteria, and gymnasium. Serve as a role model to students, especially in terms of appropriate attitudes arid respect. Counsel students daily, either one-on-one or as a group on all school and non­ school safety topics to include drug abuse prevention education. Assist the school administration with anyone who is causing a disruption, truancy issues, and any criminal activities occurring on campus. Perform ongoing security checks of the campus and make recommendations to the School Administrator. Prepare for and give presentations at faculty in-service meetings, parent education evenings, PTA/PTO meetings, and community organizations. Also attend LE functions that the supervisor deems appropriate. (e.g., Department Meetings, Training, Annual Firearm Qualifications etc.) Function as an information-gathering source for Law Enforcement and Juvenile Officials. Assist the School Administrator in developing and implementing plans and strategies to prevent and handle dangerous situations. Assist the School Administrator in formulating and practicing a school safety plan. Enforces laws; writes warnings and citations; directs traffic; investigates traffic accidents and takes reports; administers first aid. Responds to all calls for service on school property; investigates and reports on crimes or complaints; questions any witnesses or suspects, obtaining preliminary statements to get an account of the occurrence; tends to victims and calls a rescue squad if necessary; maintains order at the scene of a crime or accident. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Certification by the Ohio Police Officer's Training Possess a valid Ohio driver's Must be able to pass a background Ability to pass a physical exam, drug test, polygraph, and psychological tests Knowledge of Federal, State and local Ability to write clear and concise Ability to prepare and maintain records and Ability to train and instruct new members in law enforcement Skilled in the safe use and maintenance of police weapons, equipment and vehicles. Ability to effectively work and communicate with coworkers, the general public and public officials. Willingness to work in hazardous conditions in the pursuit of Willingness to work shifts, holidays, weekends and be on call 24/7. Additional requirements as determined by the Chief of Police LICENSE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Ohio driver's license; valid Ohio peace officer basic training certificate; SRO Certification High School education or equivalent. Able to use the in-house computer Performs related duties as GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work conditions vary by shift. The majority of tasks are performed inside school buildings. Few tasks require heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy loads. Flexibility is important because of the need to enter and exit vehicles frequently, Inspect buildings, climb over and around obstacles, suddenly move out of the way of dangers, etc. Mental alertness is very important because of the need to make fine discriminations and decisions concerning subtle cues of impending danger or to discover inconsistencies in witnesses or suspects' testimonies, etc. However, physical and mental demands may change dramatically within a few seconds and tax the maximum of human endurance. Therefore, incumbents must maintain a physical and mental state of fitness and readiness that will enable them to handle (with minimal force and often without backup) recurrent contacts and involvement with dangerous and potentially dangerous people, animals, and equipment. CAUSE FOR REMOVAL The incumbent may be removed with or without fault, and works at the will of the Chief of Police.
