Mechanical Engineer II

Summary/Objective: Ability to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment developing sophisticated batteries, battery chargers and other related products. Your work will be conducted in the Engineering Development group on multidisciplinary teams working towards committed timelines. You will typically be responsible for several products which will be in various stages of development. Must be able to develop multiple design concepts using appropriate manufacturing techniques, materials, processes and tolerances. Duties & Responsibilities: 1) Mechanical development of batteries, chargers, inverters and other related products. 2) Analyze designs for performance during rigorous use in extreme conditions. 3) Use SolidWorks 3D CAD to develop assembly layouts and development of components including injection molded parts, contacts, printed circuit boards, sheet metal parts and other fabricated and purchased components. 4) Participate in and conduct design reviews. 5) Track progress on project and keep personal action item list. 6) Coordinate and be actively involved through prototype and early production build of new products. 7) Select, meet and coordinate with suppliers to generate quotes, build prototype components, transition into production and resolve technical issues with subcontracted parts. 8) Coordinate and conduct first article testing of new products. Resolve test issues and report on results. 9) Release drawings and generate Engineering Change Orders for new and legacy products through formal document control system. 10) Review inspection reports on incoming components for conformance to design requirements. Make corrective action recommendations for non-conforming items. 11) Support proposal efforts by analyzing customer requirements and developing conceptual layouts, drawings and project cost estimates. 12) Analyze current products for performance and production improvements. 13) Resolve issues with legacy products as they come up on the assembly floor and at suppliers. Experience Required: 10 -15 years of Mechanical Engineering Experience in a Manufacturing Environment. Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree, Solidworks professional certificate a plus Skills/Competencies: Experience with the design and development of electronic products and injection molded components, must be proficient in 3D CAD for modeling, drafting and analysis, Solidworks experience a plus Work Environment: Mainly office environment, will visit Engineering lab and Production floor, will come into contact with mechanical and electronic components Physical Demands: Ability to operate office equipment, sit, stand, bend, reach and on occasion lift a maximum of 40 lbs.
