The Controller provides direction and control of all financial functions; as a member of the management team, the Controller is actively involved in company operation, and supports and achieves goals of Helping Hands Hawaii. The Controller directs the activities of the Accounting Department; records and maintains inventory control; reviews and updates plans, monitors contracts, and insurance coverage, and provides additional supervision of Representative Payee-related accounting functions. Complies with company code of ethics, confidentiality practices, HIPAA, safety and all other policies and procedures. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, manages and directs the accounting and financial reporting operations of Helping Hands Hawaii using generally accepted accounting principles. Provides control and oversight for agency's banking activities, general and subsidiary ledgers, cash control and financial reports. Establishes and/or approves accounting policies and procedures for the agency. Monitors financial reports for possible risks and opportunities. Plans and coordinates the preparations of the annual budget; prepares financial forecasts for the agency, including projecting balance sheet and income statements reflecting present trends and plans; obtains input from program manager on funds, expenses, and projects; keeps President apprised of agency finances and trends. Oversee all aspects of payroll functions, payroll allocations, reconciliation of period end, month end, quarter end, and year end payroll, which includes but not limited to; 3rd Party Sick Pay, W-2's, and State and Federal Wages/Tax reports. Oversees preparation and filing of required tax forms and reports. Records and maintains inventory control of office equipment, furniture, etc. for Helping Hands Hawaii. Assists the President, in the annual review of the Helping Hands Hawaii pension plan to assure compliance with existing fiduciary responsibilities. Monitors contractual compliance. Provides fiscal oversight and control of client trust accounts related to the Representative Payee program. Performs other duties as required or assigned by the President. Supervises Accounting staff Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. Three (3) years of progressively responsible job-related experience where knowledge and abilities have been demonstrated. Working knowledge of the principles, procedures, standards, practices and trends in the areas of finance, budgeting, accounting, and business management, and knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision. Requires demonstrated analytical skills and basic knowledge of computer operation and accounting software. Requires knowledge of federal/state law and county regulations, principles and practices of non-profit's fiscal responsibilities. Valid Driver's license and willingness to use properly insured car. Preferred Qualifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Three (3) years of progressively responsible non-profit financial management experience.
