Data and Evaluation Consultant Reports To: Director of Development Employment Status: Consultant ABOUT RED HOOK INITIATIVE (RHI) Red Hook Initiative (RHI) is a community-based nonprofit working to improve the lives of the more than 6,500 residents of Red Hook Houses, Brooklyn's largest public housing complex. RHI believes that the social change to overcome systemic inequities begins with empowered youth, and that change in communities should come from within. In partnership with community adults, we nurture young people in Red Hook to be inspired, resilient, and healthy, and to envision themselves as co-creators of their lives, community, and society. Youth development, community building, and community hiring are at the core of RHI's approach to strengthen Red Hook's future. Our model gives young people and residents the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to interrupt the systems and barriers that perpetuate historic inequities for the community. RHI's programs include: Youth Development: RHI engages over 450 adolescents each year, from middle school through young adulthood, endeavoring to interrupt cycles of injustice and to build hope. Building Community: Working with Red Hook youth and adults to organize, exercise leadership to drive positive change for the community, and increase social cohesion to build a more resilient neighborhood. Investing in Residents: RHI hires locally and invests in residents who will improve their lives and the community in which they live. Red Hook Farms: A youth-centered urban agriculture and food justice program operating one of Brooklyn's original and largest farms. Red Hook Farms cultivates affordable, fresh produce and provides STEM and nutrition education, leadership development, and employment opportunities for local youth and residents. JOB SUMMARY The Data and Evaluation Consultant will support RHI's program evaluation efforts both through maintaining our Salesforce database and working with program teams to develop dashboards and reports in Salesforce to support reporting on outputs, outcomes and impact. The Consultant will provide administrative support to program teams to ensure that the database is fully maximized, that FY23 data is accurately and fully entered, and that staff members are using it efficiently. The Consultant will be responsible for implementing quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data while supporting evaluation & reporting of services. While most of this work can be accomplished remotely, some in-person meetings may be needed. Scope of Work Maintain the organization's Salesforce instance to ensure alignment between program data and evaluation needs using custom apps and objects, formulas, workflows, validation rules, process builders, reports and dashboards Handle administrative functions in Salesforce applications including maintenance & ongoing management of up-to-date FY23 RHI participant data Support data quality & integrity by implementing routine data quality checks Assist in training and coaching of program staff to upkeep data fidelity across the organization Meet with each program team to collect & support submission of required data by program staff Manage and support data integrity between online and offline databases, ensuring accurate data flow Scope of work may include data migration of prior year's data-already deduplicated (approximately 15-20 hours of work) COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes) Expert understanding of Salesforce databases, particularly with use by nonprofits: At least 4-5 years of experience as a Salesforce user and administrator; Certified Salesforce Administrator or Advanced Administrator a plus. Experience tracking and analyzing data Strong understanding of Google Sheets and Excel, and how to integrate spreadsheet data with Salesforce Excellent communication skills with the ability to build connections with staff across the organization. A passion for supporting RHI's mission and core work and a strong connection to youth development and the Red Hook community. Able to thrive in a busy work environment, be innovative, and make decisions independently Resident of Red Hook or commitment to Red Hook preferred WORKING CONDITIONS (ENVIRONMENT) & PHYSICAL DEMANDS The RHI work environment is characteristic of a typical indoor office/program environment and the noise level is generally quiet to moderate. While performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the job the employee will be required to operate a computer and other office equipment. RHI provides a hybrid work arrangement for employees. This job is based on-site at RHI's main program office in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The ideal candidate will either be a resident of Red Hook or one of its neighboring communities or will be in reasonable commuting distance to RHI's main program office.
