ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking an experienced educator to fill a position within our Upper School Mathematics department for the 2023-2024 academic year. The ideal candidate should be willing and able to teach the range of standard Upper School Mathematics courses from Algebra I through AP Calculus. Additionally, they should have experience teaching at the high school level and hold a degree in a related discipline. Boarding school and coaching experience are preferred. Upper School teachers at HPA are expected to teach four classes, lead or assist in two athletic or co-curricular season activities, and lead an advisory group according to HPA's curriculum and mission. Our teachers work with students on the continuous development of skills, attitudes, and knowledge required to make effective college, career, and life choices. All HPA faculty and administrators are required to participate in school-hosted CPR, First Aid, and 14-passenger school bus driver training (in pursuit of a CDL license) and to maintain these credentials throughout their employment at HPA. This is a faculty (10-month) position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Math or Math Education (or related field). Teaching experience, preferably with high school students. Ability to differentiate the curriculum to match the needs of all students. The ability to collaborate with other teachers of the same course, department, and whole faculty. Proficient written and oral communication skills that can inform families and students to keep them apprised of classroom progress. Familiarity with a range of modern pedagogical approaches to mathematics education combined with a willingness to adopt an approach that meshes with that of the department. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with statistics. Experience teaching high school students. Experience teaching in an independent school. Experience working with international students. Experience teaching at boarding schools. Coaching experience. Experience working with a lens of Hawaiian culture, sustainability, and DEIB in a curriculum.
