Description:

The Maintenance Technician I provides the necessary support to maintain the daily operation of OMSI's facilities, including general preventative maintenance, equipment troubleshooting and repair, including but not limited to plumbing, painting, mechanical, and electrical support. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Manager. Essential Job Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on facility systems and equipment, including electrical, plumbing, doors, hardware, and key systems; Schedule Lighting and HVAC regularly according to museum operating hours and special events; Assist Maintenance Engineer and Maintenance Tech II with preventative maintenance and repairs of air handlers, fans, pumps, heat pumps, refrigeration, boilers, and chillers; Provide keys/cores as needed according to signed key requests; Perform tenant improvements such as painting, carpet square replacement, hanging artwork, and bulletin boards; Provide support to the events department during special events by providing temporary power drops, spider boxes, and extension cords; Maintain seasonal building maintenance needs such as gutters/roof drain cleaning and winterizing; Maintain a clean and organized workspace, which includes the maintenance shop, mechanical rooms, and storage spaces. Working Conditions This position is non-exempt, paid hourly; This position is regular full-time scheduled for 40 hours/week; This position may require occasionally working on some weekends, holidays, and/or evenings; Physical Demands: 5 % sitting, 75 % standing, 20 % lifting/carrying/pushing 100 lbs; You must be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19 or qualify for an accommodation under the ADA for medical or religious reasons. Vision Demands include: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches of less); Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point); Depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships); Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus). Environmental Demands include: Wet or humid conditions (non-weather) Extreme cold (non-weather) Extreme heat (non-weather) Outdoor weather conditions Work near moving mechanical parts Work in high, precarious places Fumes or airborne particles Risk of electric shock Noise Levels include: Moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic) Loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment) Very loud (examples: jack hammer work, front row at rock concert) Secondary Job Responsibilities Provide support to the Facilities Maintenance team and Facilities department as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Manager. Secondary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Drive to local stores to purchase repair parts as needed; Provide support to OMSI and non-OMSI project managers, vendors, and contractors during projects as needed. Provide general support to the Exhibit Repair department during exhibit changeover; Provide support to the Museum Education team during program changeover and classes set up; Provide support to the Guest Services team by monitoring the proper and safe operation of all elevators and electric scooters. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem solve; Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy; Ability and/or willingness to learn computerized maintenance software; Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, often with overlapping and time-sensitive deadlines; Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; Working knowledge of Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office; Ability to adhere to confidentiality, protocol, and community agreements; Demonstrated ability to pivot between individual and team work; Exercises sound judgement while upholding high integrity and ethical standards. PREFERENCES: Proficient or native fluency in a second language (non-English). Education & Work Experience REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED; 2 years of experience with increasing responsibility: Foundational knowledge and experience working in a commercial or industrial setting, with an emphasis on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, tenant improvements (painting/office remodeling), and preventative maintenance; Familiarity with facility mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems; Familiarity with computerized maintenance in support of climate and lighting control systems; Worked collaboratively with both small and large teams/departments. PREFERENCES: Prior experience and familiarity with preventative maintenance software. Additional Requirements/Preferences; Including Licenses and Certifications REQUIREMENTS: Pre-employment checks, such as criminal background checks and reference checks. PREFERENCES: Valid driver's license; Meets the requirements in the Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Policy, which includes passing the MVR check.
