Position Description The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Police Detective for the Tolleson Police Department. The Detective will assist the Investigations Bureau in performing investigative responsibilities and field supervision of crime scenes, in addition to performing investigative work and general administrative activities. The position may require non-traditional work hours and will be subject to on-call status and overtime on occasion. Responsibilities include: Responding to in-progress calls requiring immediate law enforcement assistance; Conducting criminal and special investigations, including domestic violence, burglaries, thefts, robberies, assaults, sex offenses, homicides and the enforcement of City, County, and State laws; Conducting criminal investigations that require additional follow-up, case management, interviewing/interrogating witnesses and suspects, testifying in court, gathering evidence, and locating and apprehending suspects. Submits charges to local magistrate and Maricopa County Superior Court; Conducting routine sex offender notifications, distributes fliers, and gathers/disseminates intelligence. Provides support services to include, but not limited to, providing information about family advocacy centers for sexually based offenses involving children; Processing major crime scenes; Preparing case documentation for filing with the County Attorney and presents case evidence in court as required; Receiving calls from and assisting other law enforcement agencies in emergencies or with requests for assistance with investigations; Coordinating with supervisor on progress and problems concerning assigned cases; Maintaining records on investigative assignments; Performing patrol and other duties in other areas of the Police Department, when called upon to do so; Assisting rotational detectives in preparing case reports for trial and preparing for appearances in court to present evidence testimony; Providing information and guidance to the public/victims regarding case status and processes; Reviewing reports submitted by officers and/or other detectives to insure completeness; Conducting in-service training and provides input in the performance appraisal process for rotational detectives; and/or, performing other related activities. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of thirty (30) units of college coursework from an accredited college or university, and/or completion of a Basic Criminal Investigation training . Five years of law enforcement work, three of which must have been in an investigative/detective capacity. Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License at the time of appoint and p ossession of an Arizona P.O.S.T. certificate. Physical Requirements Maintain physical ability and stamina to meet police and safety standards including: Ability to operate vehicles under emergency conditions, make valid identifications, use firearms, detect hazardous situations, write legible reports; Ability to converse on the radio, telephone and in person over incident noise, to be alert to situations of danger; Bodily mobility to make rapid transitions from rest to near maximum exertion without warm-up periods, stamina and endurance necessary in the apprehension of combative suspects, use of hands and fingers to write, to utilize safety gear, and drive vehicles under emergency conditions; ability to distinguish hazardous odors; Must be able to lift equipment as necessary. Physical Demands Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, hazardous materials such as chemicals, oils, and blood and other bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, exposure to the elements, travel across rough, uneven and rocky surfaces and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment. Job Information Closing Date: Open until filled Hiring Salary: $31.46 - $38.54 Hourly D.O.E. Full Salary Range for Position: $31.46-$45.62 Hourly Applications reviewed weekly, with first review February 21, 2023.
