Exempt/Non-exempt Non-Exempt The City of Saint Charles Public Works Department is currently recruiting for the position of Building Maintenance Mechanic. The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled, skilled and administrative work in maintaining the electrical, plumbing and other general construction or repair work of a City-owned facility or maintained property. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Maintains records, prepares reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical On call rotation for 2 weeks for City owned Makes repairs to and keeps in proper condition buildings and structures including, carpentry and masonry work on the interiors and exteriors of and approaches to such Repairs and replaces all plumbing Maintains and repairs lighting fixtures in City owned Moves and installs new or existing computer lines and phone Moves or installs new outlets and Moves and assembles office Repairs, orders new, replaces and changes locks, lock cores, Repairs or remodels recess computer terminals (if not extensive). Spot cleans Orders parts and supplies for Picks up purchases made by Cleans and replaces air Unloads trucks, supplies for Maintenance and supplies for Performs Responsible for tools in maintenance shop for maintenance Maintains and replaces parking Picks up parking lot and Maintains and replaces Mops floors cleans restrooms and locker Repairs all closet Replaces ceiling Restocks Cleans light diffusers and air vents and May operate and service motors, fans, pumps, heat exchanges and other related mechanical Create work order and completion of Responsible for call outs and onsite Make requests for purchases as Assists at other City owned buildings and properties when Obtains bids from contractors for maintenance and repair contracts. Coordinates with Administration regarding maintenance and repair contracts. Obtains necessary documents from contractors related to maintenance and repair contracts. Removes snow from parking lots and sidewalks and spreads salt, calcium, sand, and ice melt at Police facilities. Maintain small water source heat pump/HVAC units throughout the building. Assists the public when asked. Additional Tasks and Responsibilities While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. May serve on various committees Performs related duties as needed Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Vocational/Trade School, preferably in HVAC. Three (3) years specialized training in general construction, rehabilitation or building maintenance and construction projects, including both major and minor Any equivalent combination of education and experience Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in Ability to carry out assigned projects to their Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication Ability to read and Ability to analyze and categorize data and information in order to determine the relationship of the data with reference to established criteria/standards.
