The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for an Economic Development Analyst. The employee performs difficult professional work supporting both Washington County and the City of Johnson City, Tennessee's economic development mission of enhancing job growth, increasing the tax base, and improving the quality of life Washington County/Johnson City citizens. This role involves conducting industry research, providing technology support, collecting data, providing analysis of the conveyance of data into various formats. The ideal candidate for this position will have a basic understanding of economic development practices and a commitment to support the economic development team to achieve goals and objectives. The employee in this class receives supervision from the City of Johnson City Economic Development Director/Executive Director Washington County Economic Development Council. Special assignments, however, may arise. Essential Functions of Position: Collect, manage, analyze and prepare customized information in support of economic development initiatives/projects. Provide research and information, and/or technology support needed to execute plans and programs. Create & manipulate maps using GIS applications. Maintain and manage a database of available properties. Assist with product/site development projects/initiatives. Assist with planning, managing and executing projects. Assist with existing industry retention and expansion programs. Assist with grant writing and administration. Assist with management of various boards. Assist with business recruitment (including retail and industrial) including RFI requests. Develop a positive working relationship with economic development partners. Conduct any additional duties as assigned. Essential Skills of Position: Demonstrated knowledge of various computer software systems that enable effective economic development analysis and project execution, i.e. ESRI, GIS Mapping, Google Earth, and Microsoft Office. Demonstrated knowledge of, or ability to learn to work with, various data sources related to economic development analysis and project execution, such as: US Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), ArcGIS Business Analyst, EMSI, JobsEQ, Dun & Bradstreet, Hoovers, etc. Project management Strong analytical skills and familiarity with a variety of research methods Strong problem solving skills Ability to visually represent data in creative ways Willingness to develop working knowledge of new subject matters Ability to manage multiple projects at one time Ability to manage deadlines Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor's degrees in Geography, Business, Marketing, Economic Development or other related field, required; minimum two years of direct experience in economic development. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees as well as the general public. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
