Medical Assistant Job type: Full-time (32 to 40 hours per week) APEX Recovery, an innovative and integrative treatment center, has an exciting career opportunity for individuals with addiction treatment experience. We are seeking candidates, interested in working in the addiction treatment field, to apply for our Full-time Medical Assistant position. The facility staff is a crucial part of the program at APEX Recovery Rehab. Core responsibilities include supervision of the treatment program's facility and attending to the client's essential needs while on detoxification or residential status. Job Summary: The Medical Assistant oversees the medical care of clients, including guiding clients in self-administration of medications. The Medical Assistant will participate in activities during and in preparation for all accreditation, licensing, or other surveys. The Medical Assistant must understand poly substance abuse, insurance documentation, and utilization review management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Schedules intake appointments, records and verifies patients' information and prepares medical records on new and returning patients Check in patients, escort patients to and from waiting room, interviews patients and measures vital signs, records information into patients' electronic charts Assist Medical Director/Program Physician/Nurse Practitioner with patient intakes and as needed The Medical Assistant is also responsible for taking vital signs, helping practitioners with treatment, and collecting lab samples Acts as receptionist, performs secretarial duties and prepares and maintains reports and records Triage/manage questions, phone contacts, and fax messages File lab results into appropriate binders and distribute lab results to counselors Attend weekly staff meetings and in-service trainings Performs routine patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care providers following established clinical protocols and policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities. Assists assigned physician(s) and/or other health care professional(s). Performs routine clerical functions as assigned (i.e., data entry, answering, screening, and directing phone calls as needed and scheduling appointments). Completes chart preparation and huddles with Provider to effectively plan for scheduled patients. Completes outreach utilizing recall lists and implements standing protocols to address care gaps. Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and other pertinent information as required by specific clinic. Documents pertinent patient information, procedures, and patient responses in patients' EHR, following established Apex guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality. Prepares treatment rooms and patients for examination. Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control as directed by the Infection Control policy and procedures. Handles inventories and orders and replenishes medical supplies and materials throughout the day as needed. Performs point of care testing, including but not limited to urine tests, pregnancy tests, A1C, and others as directed. Assists the physician with therapeutic and diagnostic patient care functions which may require sterile technique, removal, or application of dressings, suturing or wound care. Performs inhalation treatments, EKG, visual testing, and audiometric testing. Prepares and administers immunizations and medications (oral and injections) as directed by physician order and in accordance with Apex policy and procedure. Participates and responds, when assigned to clinical emergency codes. Autoclave: cleaning, processing, sterilizing, and checking of instruments. Immunization coordination: oversight and management of clinic's routine and emergency vaccine plan. Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED. Completion of a course of study consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California. Completion of externship required by Medical Assisting Program. Bilingual English/Spanish Required licenses or certifications: CA Driver's License CPR/First Aid Physical Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Exemplary customer service experience in client relationships. Ability to juggle many projects at once. If in recovery, sober for at least two years. Be considered a competent and qualified professional in the respective field. Possess a genuine interest in and concern for day-to-day office operations. Have ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with all center personnel, professional staff, representatives from government and community agencies, clients and their families, and the public.
