Description Operates wastewater treatment facilities in accordance with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection rules and r egu lations , Florida Administrative Code, the facilities operating permit and company protocol. Satisfies the minimum staffing requir e m en t imposed by FDEP for each water and/or was tewater facility operated. Essential- Duties and Responsibilities: Operates act ivated s ludge proce ss plants such as extended aeration , contact s tabili zat ion , step feed, conventional activated s ludge , oxidation ditches, various nutrient remo va l proce sses including sing le and multiple anoxic and toxic zones and p hosp horus remov a l. Operates trickling filter s, rotating biological contactors and wetland treatment sys tems. Operates lime so ftening plants, chlorination facilities, aera tion facilities, we llfield s , reverse osmosis treatment sys tem s, storage facilities , filtration systems, ion exchange facilities, color removal and iron removal facilities and s imilarl y related systems. Operates plant e quipment s uch as aerators , filter s, pumps , lift stations, aeration ba sins, anoxic basins , instrument at ion , motor s, clarifies , chemical feed systems, blo wers, mixers, slakers, agitators, generators, lighting , chlorinators, su lfinator s, comminutors, rake drives, b ar scr een s, flow sp litter box es, storage tanks , meters , air compressors, air distribution syste m s, timer s, controls, sludge de wa terin g equipment, va lves , contact chambers, wells, hydropneumatic t anks, ion exchange eq uipm en t , surge t a nk s, and other si milarly related plant compo nent s and equipment. Adjusts plant equipment to achieve th e be st possible treatm e nt results and to maintain compliance w ith the plant operating permit , Responds to emergency calls , as required to t a ke corrective operation action or to assist company or client personnel in performing corrective act ion s. Operates facility effluent di sposa l syste m s in accordance w ith plant operating permit and o peratin g protocol. This includ es, but is not limited to: public access reuse systems, surface wat er di s ch arges, the rotation of rapid rate infiltrati o n basin s, drain fields , injection we ll s, spray fields, lo w pre ss ure subs urface zo ne s and wetland cell s. Maintains required so lid s in ve ntor y a t the wastewater faci li t i es to achieve the be s t possible treatment. Contro ls waste activated s lud ge rates , di gester loadin g, lime stab ili zat i o n of residuals (when applicable) a nd coordinates residual haulin g . Essential Duties and Re sp onsibilities: Adjusts and maintains chemical dosages to ensure compliance with the facility operating permit and Florida Administrative Code. Pro v id es daily checks of the water and or wastewate r facilities to document operational s t a tus and maintenance requirements. Performs compliance s ampling for required parameters for water and wastewa ter quality analysis, in accordance with facility operating permit. Maintains on site complete and accurate operating logbo ok and record s on water and / or wastewater facilities in accordance with FDEP requirements. Performs fi e ld testing to include , but not limi te d to , dissolved oxygen concentration, chlorine re s idual , pH, se ttable so lid s, microscopic examination of activated s ludge , nitrate, hardnes s, total dis so l ved so lid s, conductivit y, alkalinity , ammonia , iron , chlorides, turbidity fluoride and any other such field te st ing necessary for plant process control to maintain compliance with the plant operating permit , company or plant operating protocol and FDEP rules and regulation s. Performs calibration procedure s on all field testing equipment as p e r FDEP requirement and maintain s calibration log o n each field in s trument as well as maintaining all e quipment in good working order. Calculate, maintain and record pl ant h ydra uli c rates to include but not limited to return activated sludge rates, waste activated sludge rates, surge l oad ing rates , filter loading and backwash rates , rec ycle rates, influent and effluent fl ow rates when applicable, ta nk transfer rates, reject flow rate s and an y other hydraulic loading rate within the control of the plant operator to maintain compliance w ith plant operating permit. Perform minor plant equipment r epa ir and maintenance to include repair of chemical feed pumps and inj ectio n point s, lubrication of pumps , motors , blowers, rake dri v e assemblies , mixers, aerators , etc. R ep lace a ir filters on plant eq uipm ent, perform routine instrumentation cle a ning and maintenance and report any required maintenance necessary to maintain efficient equipment operations and compliance with plant operating permit. Perform genera l hou sekeep ing dutie s such as , but not limited to, picking up and di s p osal of various debris and sc reenin gs , empty tr as h cans , was hing do wn of cl ar ifier s and other pl ant equipment, clean up minor s ludge s pills and sludge sp la s hin g , netting treatable d e bri s from tanks and keep wa lkw ays c l ea r of obstruction and d e bri s . Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Reviews monthly reports and laboratory analysis prior to submittal to regulatory agencies. Reports abnorma l events and events resu ltin g in noncompliance with the operating permit, FDEP Rules and Regulations, the facility operating protocol or F l orida Administrative Code in accordance with company ab normal reporting protocol. Reports any unsafe working conditions to supervisor immediately upon discovery. Performs other simi la r duties as assigned or requested. Must be availab l e from time to time to work sc heduled or unscheduled ove1time in order to satisfy plant-staffing requirements. Chief Operator shall be responsible for Operator ' s schedu l e a nd e n sures adequate staffing le ve l s needs are met at all times. Chief Operator shall ensure that the staff operator adheres to company policies at a ll times, and reports any failure to adhere. Qualifications: Must currently have a Class B or Higher Wastewater License Must be able to take and pass a pre-employment background and drug screen.
