Serving 320 students in preschool through grade 8, Marin Primary & Middle School's vibrant learning community is located in the town of Larkspur, just 4.5 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Taking advantage of both the beautiful outdoor environment of Marin County and the cultural offerings of metropolitan San Francisco, MP&MS asks its students to Be Connected, Be Curious, and Be Courageous . At Marin Primary & Middle School we make education meaningful, while encouraging pride in self, respect for others, and enthusiasm for learning. The Librarian will have primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the David Hale Library Media Center. They will promote the library as a welcoming, warm, safe space for students and families where the love of books and reading is celebrated. The Librarian promotes and communicates the library media center's program to the MP&MS community. Essential Duties Through a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, curates a collection that reflects the diversity of student experiences and offers windows and mirrors that reflect student identities and provide insight into the world of others. Organizes and carries out grade-level, schoolwide and parent activities and events that promote the love of literacy, such as book shares, author visits, and displays of books and materials. Develops an understanding of the interests and needs of individual students and supports the love of learning, literature and research through use of the library resources. Manages library operating budget and oversees all LMC expenditures. Supervises development of the library collection and processing of library materials. Provides a program of library instruction in information literacy, teaching students and teachers how to find, select, use and evaluate print and non-print resources; understands copyright law and issues surrounding plagiarism, and is able to impart this information as part of the skills program. This includes Digital Citizenship instruction to First-Third grade students. Collaborates with faculty to integrate library resources into classroom curriculum, assists teachers in finding and selecting appropriate materials to support their curriculum; provides teachers and other staff with information about new books and resources. Develops and maintains in conjunction with division directors, a collection of books and other materials that strongly relates to curriculum and children's interests; orders new materials, including those requested by teachers and other staff; deletes outdated materials as needed to ensure that the collection remains relevant and up-to-date. Maintains the library automated system (Alexandria) and proprietary online databases. Serves as a member of Friends of the Library, a group of volunteers who sponsor events that promote the love of reading. Schedules, trains and directs the work of library volunteers. Attends professional meetings on a regular basis and actively participates in the library media center professional organizations. Through the magic of skilled storytelling exposes children to the joy of stories and encourages a lifelong love of reading. Deletes outdated materials as needed to ensure that the collection remains relevant and up-to-date. Other duties as assigned by the division director. Additional Responsibilities Back to School Night; other parent events Weekly faculty meetings Recess supervision Occasional morning parking lot duty Occasional lunch clean up duty (1 - 2 x per year) Qualifications Bachelor's or advanced degree At least 3 years of prior teaching experience, preferably in a preschool through primary school environment. Broad knowledge of children's literature and a genuine appreciation for children and the desire to work with them. The ability to captivate and engage students in creative ways that support literacy - can include puppets, music, improvisation. Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with students, faculty and staff, and to work as a leader and as part of a collaborative team. Knowledge of the social/emotional lives and developmental stages of children. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
