JOB DESCRIPTION : Skills Trainer OR GANIZATIONAL SALARY LEVEL: I DIRECT SUPERVISOR : Lead Developmental Specialist JOB PURPOSE: Skills trainers are responsible for ensuring that individuals in the LIFE program receive skill development in the following areas Self-care , Receptive and Expressive Language, Learning, Gross and Fine Motor Development, Self-Direction, Capacity for Independent Living, and Economic Self - Sufficiency. The expectation is for Trainers " To assist individuals who have a disability or who are disadvantaged to recognize and to achieve their chosen level of economic and social independence " and "Do the right thing ." ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Through positive rapport and acceptable rehabilitation practices s upervise, train , and assist clients individually or in groups as assigned daily based on the need for the day . Assist clients in achieving their chosen level of economic and social independence. Requiring verbal and written communication and ability to work independently. Observe client performance, accurately record, and timely submit relevant data to assess progress, and ensure recordkeeping is kept in accordance with Medicaid regulations. Provide crisis prevention and behavior management as needed per corporate policy and procedure Monitors adherence to Health & Welfare rules, CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) standards and corporate policies and procedures Feeds and toilets individuals based o n need requiring at times lifting to 50 lbs. and transferring from wheelchairs . Develop curriculum where necessary, while considering diversity and interests of those served. Facilitates integration of clients into the greater community or the greater community into DWI . This requires the ability to drive and have a valid driver's license. Develop positive rapport and a ctively collaborate with peers , individual contributors, and DWI stakeholders to achieve the mission . The trainer must be adaptable to frequent changes and work where needed at any time. Assist Developmental Specialists where needed beyond the regularly scheduled client services. Meet the requirements that DWI is held to by IDAPA: 16.03.10.705.13 e - which states that Adult Day Health providers who provide direct care or services must be free from communicable disease. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Supervise clients to maintain an orderly and safe work environment . Possess basic computer skills; familiarity with email, spreadsheets, video conferencing etc. Using logic and reasoning identify any assistive devices needed as alternative solutions to client disabilities. Organize and supervise games and other activities to promote physical, mental, and social development . Identif y alternative solutions to problems, streamline services and gain greater efficiency within Medicaid regulations and CARF standards. O ffer recommendation s for change or improvements and promote services to potential clients and stakeholders. Enforce administrative policies and procedures governing client rights, independence , professional ethics, and DWI corporate culture. Actively engage in department or corporate meetings, training opportunities and client meetings when invited. WORK ENVIRONMENT: C ampus based and greater community services . Greater c ommunity services are conducted using DWI authorized vehicles. Campus Services are conducted in a classroom setting. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Ability to reach, bend, push/pull, stand, walk, stoop, and lift to 50lbs., sit and stand frequently . POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a part-time position, and hours of work vary , typically Monday throu gh Friday between the hours of 8: 30 to 5: 30 depending on client and program need. REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE : Must meet qualifications as defined by IDAPA to work in Developmental Therapy High School diploma or equivalency First Aid and CPR Certification SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for the safety of all employees, the public , volunteers, and consumers of corporate services. This position is also responsible for keeping current on appropriate safety and health laws, rules and regulations which may affect the work environment of DWI's facilities, programs, and services .
