Aquatics: Swim Instructor- Lakewood YMCA

Description:
The Swim Instructor will plan and deliver engaging classes, using the Y of the USA swim curriculum, in a designated aquatics program area for YMCA members, program participants, and non-members. Instructors are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Job Responsibilities: Demonstrate skills and explain them clearly to class members, working at the appropriate skill level for the class. Plan each class in advance, leading in proper attire using appropriate materials and equipment. Observe YMCA standards and safety rules. Maintain positive rapport with participants and their parents or caregivers. Responsible for the safety of all participants. Gathers periodic participant feedback. Evaluate swimming skills and place participants in appropriate class. Keep the pool area neat and clean, and maintain knowledge of emergency equipment. Qualifications: Minimum six months of previous aquatic instructor experience. CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within (3 months) 90 days of hire. Current swim instructor (WSI or YSI) certification preferred prior to hire. Or must be obtained within the first (3 months) 90 days of hire. Demonstrated public speaking ability and customer service orientation toward a wide variety of individuals and groups. General knowledge of anatomy and exercise physiology. Working knowledge teaching aids: Kickboards, pull buoys, diving rings etc., Understanding of pool readings and chemistry. Physical Demands: Frequent swimming, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, sitting, standing and or instructing others for the duration of their shift. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. Work environment might be noisy, slippery, and wet.
