About the role: We are in need of a Staff Accountant for our Manassas, Virginia location. This position will apply principles of accounting and budgeting to ensure effective accounting and control, measuring, and reporting of the financial condition of NOVEC and its subsidiaries. The selected candidate will perform general ledger and cash transaction accounting. Overview of the role: Assist with administration of the fixed asset system, PowerPlan. Performs month-end close activities including but not limited to, closing functions of PowerPlan, recurring and adjusting journal entries for depreciation, capitalization/retirement, preparing account reconciliations, analyzing data reports, and variance analysis and overhead allocations. Handles and maintains integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive human resource and management information records. Assist with preparation of property tax reports for the Virginia State Corporation Committee. Assist with system implantation and upgrades for portions of the financial systems. Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit. Analyzes and reconciles NOVEC general ledger accounts for accuracy and reasonableness. Prepares reports, statements, and documents for NOVEC management and external authorities. Works continually towards self-development to stay current on accounting, tax, budgeting, and financial procedures and practices. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of related experience and/or training in general accounting is strongly desired. Professional Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team. Demonstrated knowledge of company policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and mathematical skills. Knowledge of payroll and budgeting systems, accounting theory, financial theory and tax law. Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation, Microsoft Office applications and accounting systems. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization. Ability to anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational directi on. Strong analytical, organization, communication, and negotiation skills.
