The beautiful tree-lined City of New Carrollton is a residential community located in suburban Prince George's County, approximately eight miles from Washington, DC. New Carrollton has a diverse population of over 12,000 residents. This is an appointed position and the incumbent must be approved by the City Council. Duties and Responsibilities Supervises and directs Public Works operations; monitors employee performance, conducts evaluations, and rewards and disciplines employees. Develops and monitors department budget. Reviews and updates policies and procedures. Attends meetings and reports status of projects; receives feedback from others on department performance and needed projects. Obtains bids and composes purchasing agreements and contracts to ensure the most economical purchases. Coordinates schedules to ensure proper coverage for daily operations, special events, and emergency operations. Responds to citizens' concerns and questions as needed. Networks with other Public Works officials. Develops and maintains capital improvement plan for infrastructure (roads and buildings) and vehicles. O versees the repair and maintenance of all City vehicles including vehicles used by the Public Works Department, Administration Department and the Police Department . In consultation with the appropriate Department Head, recommends to the Mayor and Purchasing Agent the disposal and purchasing of all vehicles and equipment. Performs related work as assigned. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in business, public administration or closely related field plus ten (10) years o f public works experience or closely related experience. Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves sustained keyboard operations. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery. Certifications and Licenses Must possess current CDL Class A or B Must have MDE UST system Class A/B operator certification HEALTH AND SAFETY The health and safety of our employees is a top priority.
