Job Title: Recreation Assistant II Department: Parks & Recreation Reports To: Recreation Program Coordinator Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly) Wage Scale: $12.00-$13.12 per hour (Typical starting wage $12.00-$12.56 DOE) Close Date: Open until filled Hours: Hours may vary Position Summary: This position is responsible for officiating and scorekeeping organized athletic events, such as tennis, softball, baseball, football, soccer, etc., recording the individual team scores, and for completing other duties as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Officiates games, serves as the "official" interpreter of rules and regulations, monitors play, umpires, and referees. • Keep and display score throughout the game by operating scorekeeping device. • Provide final and official results to program coordinators. • Assist in setup of relevant equipment and playing field/area. • Put player safety and health first by dealing aggressively with unsafe situations or player conduct, including parents and coaches. • Maintain a productive working environment which includes, but is not limited to, a spirit of cooperation with co-workers, peers, and the public. • Other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator and/or Recreation Manager. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Knowledge of theory and philosophy of recreation and ability to interpret this philosophy to others; Knowledge of methods, rules and techniques of the sport or sports in which being hired to keep score. • Ability to show emotional maturity by controlling anger and never using obscene language or gestures; Show a positive attitude toward the game and all it's participants; Operate electronic scorekeeping devices requiring some manual dexterity. While preforming the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds, talk, hear, and see. Duties require sufficient mobility to work in an athletic setting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The employee is also occasionally required to sit. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposes to moderate to loud noise. Work is performed primarily in indoor or outdoor settings and in all weather conditions.
