Job Title: District School Resource Officer Job Classification: District Support Reports to: Superintendent Work Schedule: Year Round G eneral Description: The School Resource Officer supports and facilitates the educational process at Career & Success Academy by providing a safe and secure environment through building and establishing meaningful relationships with students and staff . The incumbent will work effectively with students, parents, school personnel and community agencies to support teaching and learning in the schools. The School Resource Officer will patrol district property to protect students, staff and visitors from physical harm and prevent loss to district property resulting from criminal activity Qualifications A minimum of 3 -5 years of work experience in law enforcement in a traditional law enforcement agency or school environment preferred. Ability to work with youth and adults in the school setting. Must hold all certifications by NASRO, local police agency, and Indiana Department of Education to be a School Resource Officer. Primary Responsibilities Enforce federal, state and local traffic and criminal laws and ordinances . Assist school officials with enforcement of school policy and regulations regarding student and visitor conduct. Protect persons and property on school premises; work through school administration to address concerns related to school safety, including building security, transportation, emergency response and evacuation plans. Perform all duties while armed and in professional attire that is appropriate for the activities at hand. Coordinate with the building principals to investigate and assist in the prosecution of violations occurring on school premises; gather information concerning criminal activity involving students on or off school grounds, conduct arrests as necessary and appropriate . Serve as a resource for students, enabling them to be associated with a law enforcement figure in the school environment; provide guidance and consultation for students experiencing problems related to law enforcement, making appropriate referrals . Meet with faculty, staff and parents on an individual basis to deal with specific issues or problems related to delinquency prevention Act as liaison between students, parents, school faculty and staff, child protective services, juvenile prosecutors, juvenile court and probation officers; facilitate communication between all parties. In conjunction with school administration, maintain control of emergency incidents requiring law enforcement intervention until relieved by police or fire department command personnel Coordinate non-emergency requests for police services for special events, including, but not limited to athletic contests and other after-hours student-involved events. Document all actions taken with students and parents in a formal setting. Ensure compliance with school regulations and policies.
