Position Summary: Performs professional work in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of building structures and facilities. The successful candidate will apply extensive and comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and standards to ensure plans' conformance with COTA design standards and performs related work as required. Performs duties in alignment with the 2019 - 2024 COTA Strategic Plan and in support of the organization's vision To Move Every Life Forward. This Position is Responsible For: Responsible for leading, reviewing and commenting on project designs (roadway & streetscape modifications and/or improvements as well as site development plans) submitted by various municipalities, developers, and private entities within the COTA taxing district (Central Ohio) for compliance with the Transit Stop Design Guide and ADA Laws; Lead coordination efforts with various municipalities as well as private entities to track and maintain a log of projects / plan reviews received by COTA; Analyzes survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects; Manages the Transit Stop Design Guide and all associated standard details; Provides installation guidance of transit stop amenities in coordination with COTA Facilities Department; Perform on-site inspection of project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards; Perform field visits to Bus Stops to determine existing site conditions including taking measurements, photographs and notes; Assist with the development of the scope of work for requests for bids and the development of the request for proposals for the consultant contracts for the capital projects within the Infrastructure Engineering & Maintenance Division. Review bids and bid proposals for approval of contracts. Estimates quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility; Performs small civil design infrastructure projects including calculations for a variety of projects, sketches, drainage, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required; Plans and designs transportation systems and structures using computer aided design (AutoCAD) software and drawing tools, in accordance with local and state design & construction standards; Reviews capital requests for the capital planning process and provide direction on improving the requests. Leads Capital Review Committee. Ensures that the capital request process is managed within COTA guidelines; Represents COTA in various public forums including public involvement meetings, neighborhood group planning sessions, private development forums, employer meetings, and agency coordination for capital project initiatives (e.g. MORPC, ODOT, City of Columbus, regional partners, industry groups, developers); and; Provide engineering guidance to various cross functional teams and internal committees; At Minimum You'll Need: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or other related fields and a minimum of three (3) years of civil engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two (2) years of experience in transit design, roadway design or traffic signal management preferred. Experience on projects involving the City of Columbus, ODOT, and/or other Central Ohio municipalities. Professional Engineers License preferred. Civil Engineering EI / EIT required.
