The Christman Company is looking for an experienced, creative, goal-oriented, successful payroll professional to fill the role of a Payroll Specialist in our Lansing office. This role administers activities relating to payroll, benefits and HRIS processing including; developing, implementing and monitoring (e.g., performing internal audit and control procedures to ensure that all wages and taxes are accurate). Essential Job Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Perform daily payroll department operations, which includes processing of garnishments, levies, and child support orders. Manage daily workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely. Communicates regularly with payroll, human resources and finance managers to ensure that all employee records and accounts are accurate. Ensures that all benefit and insurance premiums are properly deducted from payroll checks. Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports. Adheres to all state and federal regulations for payroll processing. Maintain data integrity in HRIS and payroll systems on a daily basis. Resolves any discrepancies surrounding payroll issues. Responds to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns within 24 hours on non-payroll processing days. Keeps up to date on changes in company tax status on a regular basis. As needed, assists Finance Department in preparing for audits. Maintain and document all payroll records on a daily basis. Conducts semi-annual audits of all payroll records. Process accurate and timely year-end reporting. Assisting with the annual benefit open enrollment process. Regular maintenance of personnel. Responds as needed to unemployment inquires and employment verifications within 24 hours on non-payroll processing days. Work Environment The job will be conducted in a temperature controlled professional office environment, with moderate noise. The role will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, sit, walk, reach, kneel, stoop, crouch, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel and to operate a computer, telephone and keyboard, and maintain visual acuity. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and or carry lightweight (under 20 pounds) objects. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Expected Hours of Work Full time, 40-hours a week. Occasional extended hours and weekends may apply. Travel Minimal travel required, depending on the project, travel to other areas may be required. Majority of travel done during work hours, overnight stays may be required. Required Education and Experience Associate's Degree in Accounting, General Business, Human Resources or related field. Two (2) or more years of experience in payroll . Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree. Two (2) or more years of experience with job costing, prevailing wage, and union environments. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Proven ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity, and handle, update, and maintain sensitive information in a confidential, timely, and professional manner. High level of accuracy and advanced attention to detail. Must have strong knowledge of variety of computer software applications including payroll, benefits, time & attendance and HRIS and self-service systems. Excellent communication and writing skills. Solid knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPPA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA).
