Grand Traverse County Road Commission is looking for someone who wants to make a difference in our community and be part of our mission to maintain a safe & efficient road system . We are currently looking to fill the role of Project Engineer . The project engineer will supervise surveys, plan drafting, design and create specifications for road construction projects. We are looking for someone who not only enjoys the design phase of construction but also being out on site working with the contractors and crew. This role will work with the Road Commission's County Highway Engineer to determine and schedule construction projects. This role also prepares cost estimates of road project cost and local roads for township officials and other partners. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or the equivalent. Desired but not required are five or more years of road design and construction management experience. This role requires that the individual either possess a PE (Professional Engineer) license in Michigan and/or has the ability to achieve this within two years from hire. A successful candidate will enjoy both time working in the office but also out at job sites no matter the weather or conditions. A good sense of humor and ability to be a team player is desired. And, knowledge of the laws and regulations around Road Commissions and road construction is desired. The Grand Traverse County road system is comprised of 251 primary, 750 local and 224 State miles of road. The Road Commission is housed in a modern facility built in 2001 that features 6,000 sq. ft. of administrative offices, 15,800 sq. ft. of equipment storage, 10,000 T salt storage barn and a MDEQ/EPA approved fueling depot.
