Classification Title Journeyman Plumber Department Building Pay Range A- 25, Step I, $32.99 to Step VII, $ 44.22 GENERAL SUMMARY This position is responsible for executing the trade of Plumbing in a commercial and residential setting while providing support to the Plumber Supervisor. This position ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, and on occasion, later hours or weekend time may be required with project deadlines and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is essential at all times. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform. This list of responsibilities is intended to be representative of the duties performed within this classification. Supervise and provide leadership to apprentices in Plumbing skills training. Demonstrate skills and oversee apprentices work on plan layout and installation of plumbing systems, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Provide timely evaluations of intern's knowledge and skills. Develop & apply approved standards, including daily project plans and on-site procedures. Provide a safe workplace by delivering safety procedures training and ensuring the proper use of hand tools, power tools, and other related Plumbing practices. Maintain an accurate inventory of all tools and equipment used on the jobsite; ensure tools are in good working order and are safe to operate. Interface with sub-contractors and inspectors as requested by the Project Manager. Assist in vocational counseling and development of apprentice's skills. Serve as a mentor to apprentices to develop successful plumbing and personal skills. Attend all staff meetings pertaining to trade related topics, as directed. Assist in the scheduling, budgeting, and review of plumbing related projects. Establish and meet deadlines and achieve program goals. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent Must have verifiable WA licensed Journeyman Plumber status and the ability to perform at the Journeyman level. Must have 2 years of recent experience working as a Journeyman Plumber Must have experience training others in the plumbing industry. Must be willing and able to work on all Nisqually Tribe owned properties which may include travel. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider. Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity. Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes. SUPERVISION This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. This position reports to the Plumber Supervisor. COMPETENCIES Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the primary responsibilities of the position. · Knowledge of safety procedures for plumbing systems. · Knowledge of plumbing theory and its application · Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes and maintenance practices and procedures. · Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in Plumbing repair and new construction. · Knowledge of current WA plumbing, mechanical, and related code requirements. · Knowledge of other resources and how to acquire them. · Skill in selecting and using appropriate instructional methods and procedures when new maintenance/construction practices are available. · Skill in critical thinking relating to the identification of apprentice's strengths and weaknesses, and the ability to come up with alternate solutions or conclusions. · Ability to multitask effectively. · Ability to demonstrate patience with apprentices and aid in their growth. · Ability to communicate effectively with the Building Director, management, and homeowners or other clients on all proposed projects. · Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and specifications at a journeymen level. · Ability to provide an educational training curriculum that will assure the success of apprentices and their retaining of construction knowledge. · Ability to mediate apprentice conflict and confrontation and facilitate reconciling of differences. · Ability to provide the leadership needed to bring people together to complete tasks requiring teamwork. · Ability to follow personnel policies. · Ability to follow directions. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS The work environment and exposures described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary responsibilities of this job. Work will be conducted indoor and outdoor and may be exposed to fluctuations in temperature while in and around Nisqually Indian Tribe. You may be exposed to all types of weather to include but not limited to summer heat, winter cold, humidity, rain, snow, wind, and any other weather conditions experienced at the property. May be exposed to normal conditions related to the position i.e., noise from vehicles, machines, tools, customers, employees, dust, pollen, odors, wildlife etc. May also, from time-to-time be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals or substances as is common in this environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle; feel; or grip objects, stretch and/or reach with hands and arms; stoop; crouch or work in cramped or awkward positions; repetitive motions. This person may regularly lift and/or move up to 55+ pounds.
