Summary of the main function/purpose of the position: Instructs child shelter residents in activities designed to promote social/emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Provides supportive services to child shelter residents and their families. This includes activities, supervision of children, group services, safety planning, and service management. Principal duties/responsibilities: Plans and facilitates daily after-school activities for children residing in shelter. This includes educational and recreational experience during after school and out of school time for children on a daily basis that are age appropriate and interactive/hands on. Supervision of children, which includes participation during activities on-site and out in the community. Provides safety planning, supportive counseling, advocacy, crisis intervention, and referrals to other agencies as needed. Covers childcare class room during breaks for childcare teachers. Encourages growth in children through communication and play. Coordinates and supervises the summer youth program. Organizes, supervises, transports, and participates in field trips. Reports maintenance concerns and monitors the overall safety of the school and shelter. Provides transportation and assistance with transportation in agency vehicles as needed. Facilitates groups for children. Maintains the daily nutrition and food count of participants 21 years of age and younger. When needed, completes all paperwork, including health and behavior screenings, assessments, and safety plans in a timely manner and in accordance with FCADV and other funder's standards. Cover child care class rooms each day while the childcare teachers take a break. Maintains all statistical reports as required by funders and turns them in on a timely basis. Maintains required documentation and WS data in a timely and accurate manner. Attends all staff meetings and regular individual supervision as required. Occasional duties or projects which may be performed at irregular intervals: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Updates and modifies the basic curriculum and resources used in the children's program as approved by the supervisor. Attends meetings in the community, as assigned. Provides recreational activities with participants within the shelter setting and in the community. VI. Educational and/or equivalence in experience requirements: Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science preferred or two years of related social service or childcare experience. Child Development Associate (CDA) or equivalent required (or will complete within 60 days of employment). Certification in First Aid and CPR. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Specialized or technical educational requirements: Obtain Core Competency certification prior to having direct contact with participants. 16-hours of training required each year thereafter regarding the dynamics of domestic violence and intervention. Must have knowledge of community resources. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Certification or licensing requirements: Valid Florida driver's license, active vehicle insurance, and acceptable MVR required. Must successfully pass and maintain screening through child care licensing agency and DCF, as required by law. Must successfully pass Level II background screening and drug screening. Must willing and eligible get and maintain a Child Care Professional credential. Certification in First Aid and CPR. Twelve hours of continuing education required annually. Obtain CORE Competency certification prior to having direct contact with participants. 16 hrs of training each year thereafter regarding the dynamics of domestic violence and intervention.
