The Employee Health and Infection Nurse is responsible for oversight and implementation of employee health programs, including pre-employment screenings, health education, health promotion programs, and assisting in meeting all state and federal regulations. The Nurse also leads Safety Committee and ensures safe work practices throughout WHA and maintains an infection control program. DUTIES Oversees and manages the administrative and operational activities of pre-employment vaccinations and any potential health screenings and annual employee health requirements including, but not limited to, vaccinations, in partnership with Human Resources (HR). Assesses symptomatic employees to assist in determining return-to-work timelines and to ensure adherence to public health guidelines in partnership with HR. Develops and maintains a clinic-wide Infection Prevention and Control Program, in partnership with the Nurse Managers and Risk and Compliance Officer. Develops clinic wide educational initiatives. Identifies, documents and conducts staff and physician education/training needs on health, safety, and infection prevention and control topics. Develops and maintains evidence-based programs that support effective infection prevention and control strategies. Plans and implements education programs in conjunction with clinician leadership, Nurse Managers, and clinic operations. Creates training content for annual and onboarding OSHA training, including Bloodborne Pathogens, Emergency Response, and Hazard Communication. Serves as chair of Safety Committee. Ensures the Committee is effective and complies with all OSHA requirements. Assists with accident or near-miss investigations to identify root causes of employee health incidents and strategies for prevention, in partnership with Safety Committee and HR. Contributes to the design of controls for injury prevention and health related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment, in partnership with Safety Committee and HR. Assumes responsibility for ergonomic evaluations and recommendations for improvement. May assist with safety inspections and new hire training on safety issues. Recognizes issues, makes recommendations for improvement and helps to integrate infection prevention/safety into all aspects of patient care and staff activities. Assists Human Resources with Wellness Program initiatives to promote health and wellness in the workforce. Coordinates annual employee flu or other vaccination clinics in coordination with Nurse Managers and other clinic leaders. Oversees infection prevention activities including coordinating vaccination campaign, planning/implementation of influenza flu vaccine. Obtains and monitors data and information related to practices and compliance including surveillance for infections and safety concerns. Conducts regular infection control risk assessments. Coordinates Respiratory Protection Program, including conducting respirator fit tests and medical screening. Partners with Imaging Department on compliance with Radiation Protection Program. Follows up on blood borne exposure incidents between the employee / provider, source patient, and testing facility. Conducts annual sharps survey as required by Oregon OSHA. Ensures adequate protections for chemical hazards exist by managing WHA's Hazard Communication Program and maintaining Safety Data Sheets. Partners with Purchasing to ensure chemical, pharmaceutical and biohazardous waste streams are managed appropriately. Responsible for policies and procedures within the organization related to employee health and infection prevention and control. Notifies the County and/or State Health Department of any reportable disease among employees and clinicians, adhering to all internal county and state procedures. Takes responsibility for and demonstrates safe work practices. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Maintains WHA confidentiality standards. Attends WHA and office meetings. Models The Values Statement and The Patient Experience of WHA. QUALIFICATIONS Associates degree in Nursing and two years of equivalent work experience required. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred. Valid license as an RN in the State of Oregon required. Experience in root-cause analysis and case review. Prior experience in applicable employee health and infection control preferred Demonstrated success in service excellence and quality improvement. Ability to read, analyze and interpret journals, reports, charts, and documents. Knowledge of proper business writing standards for letters, memos and other internal and external correspondence. Proven effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook). Database skills preferred. Valid driver's license or the ability to procure transportation to various WHA sites and meetings. Ability to demonstrate The Values Statement and The Patient Experience of WHA. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
