F/T or P/T Laundry Specialist position opening available at our Hilton Garden Inn Cedar Rapids. This individual is responsible for keeping our linens crisp, clean and bright. Hours are flexible and you must be available on some weekends. Nights or late afternoons into the early evening is ideal. Stop in and complete an application today for immediate consideration or apply online. A Laundry Attendant is responsible for providing a constant supply of clean linens for the entire hotel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITLIES Pre-Sort and separate all linens Turn in any personal guest items Lost & Found Properly treat any stains Load all laundry into washer selecting appropriate program for linens Remove wet, clean laundry from washer and place in dryer while inspecting for any stains stained items are to be re-treated Dry clean, wet linens on appropriate setting in dryer Sort and fold clean dried items Deliver cleaned linens to appropriate floor or area of hotel Maintain inventory of all cleaning supplies, chemicals and communicate needs to General Manager or Executive Housekeeper Record any stained linens that are unacceptable for guest room use for linen inventory Trim loose strands from any towels, blankets, etc as needed Ensure linens are in good condition, free of wear, tear and stains Clean floor drains daily in a.m. and p.m. Clean dryer lint filter between loads Maintaining all laundry equipment and inform Chief Engineer of any maintenance needs Perform additional laundry services when necessary Must handle all chemicals properly and apply as directed Perform any other duties as requested by the General Manager JOB REQUIREMENTS Must be able to lift 20 pounds on a consistent basis Experience preferred but not required Flexible schedule and reliable Must be a fast pace worker and work well with others Multi-tasking skills HGI POLICIES Responsible for following all HGI policies and procedures as set forth in the HGI handbook and property specific guidelines/standards. These policies include dress code, safety and performance standards. Employees must also maintain a professional image and report to work as scheduled. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE No specific knowledge, education or training required to accomplish the essential functions of this job. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read some two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities/differences between words and numbers. Ability to print and/or to speak simple sentences. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to read, write and recognize numbers, comprehend signs and symbols. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense and the understanding to carry out simple instructions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment described here is representative of that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. All employees must follow proper safety precautions at all times to avoid injuries. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat from hot water. The employee is occasionally exposed to blood-borne pathogens, outside weather conditions (depending on business unit), and a mild risk of electrical shock and occasionally works with power equipment such as buffers, carpet cleaners, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
